I don't get what the scam is ? What is menat by "to get email addresses..."?
The scam is both cars can't have the same vin#. Obviously they are not the same car, look at the pictures. Exterior is a different color, front marker lights are different, wheels are different, interiors don't match, VIN's are the same.

One car is the original(probably the KIA dealer), the other car is a fraud, either stolen, forged title/VIN, or may not exist at all. Ebay is a scammers dream. Think about it, all sellers want payment before you get the car, mostly payments by mail from a buyer who lives hundreds or thousands of miles away. What happens when you go to pick up the car and it doesn't exist? I have looked at dozens of MB's over the years, and have seen several cars where the vin's # were altered, ie... as in stolen cars. I have heard every story and seen many misrepresented cars, especially mileage fraud.

Didn't you just practically "beg" someone to buy it for you?

The old, mechanical odometers were very easy to "adjust". Less than an hour's work. The new digital type actually cost money, the kit is sold on the Internet for about $6000 and the price for an adjustment is about $350 Canadian.
Would be wise to check all 3 VINs (firewall, doorjamb and windshield) for match (the plastic sticker on the doorjamb is difficult to remove), get all service records, CarFax info before paying for the car.
I still think that for $405 it must be a stolen/insurance write-off car.

Golf clap for 450slcguy. Well played!

Interesting to note that, with the exception of the interior and exterior colors, the one section of the auction description is identical to part of the Autotrader listing - including the same "stock number"! Stock number from a private seller?

The list of features in the eBay description is also identical to the "installed features" section of the Autotrader listing - word for word, in the same order - only differing to the extent that it's formatted with semicolons rather than having the items in columns with bullets.

That's a lot to ask for in the way of coincidence - maybe some cut-n-paste going on, eh?

For what it's worth, the most recent entry in CARFAX for that VIN is dated 8/16/2006. It shows it as "dealer inventory" in Georgetown, Texas, and up for sale.

It's not unheard of for scams to be run using eBay accounts that have been compromised. It's one thing to misrepresent real goods, but some of them manage to do all right selling nonexistent goods!

For what it's worth, you can always try running the VIN through the decoder at that Russian M-B Club site.

They say the car with that VIN is white with a gray interior.

I did before 450SLC guy; .....alerted me of this as a scam.
I would guess that the "owner" put in the 405 bid somehow, himself.

Even a crook wouldn't sell a hot MB car for 400.

This is the reply I got today from the seller of the 300CE on ebay ;
via email;

Hey
sorry about the auction. I have missed it. We're going through some health problems right here. Anyway that's not your problem, the problem is if you would like to buy our MB 300CE. Just as in the auction, it's a great car with no problems. I am planning on relisting the 300CE just for you so you can hit the Buy It Now button. Just say Yes or No.
Thank's

How far away is the car from you? Can you go look at it? Even if its got 300k miles on it, for $500 if it runs good, certainly looks good enough. Drive it for a year and junk it.

.........you might want to read the previous posts regarding this vehicle........

The vehicle has 130K on the clock, is offered with a wrong VIN and the seller desires $2900. for it.

i would run not walk away from that seller.

i am betting the car does not exist.

i will note that the black car in the picture looks really sharp. it also looks as if it has 500e front fenders on it. very aggressive flares.

I wouldn't make any judgments until I saw the vehicle and the title.

If he made an error in the VIN, all the self described experts eat crow and you've got a great vehicle for the price.

I'd probably not make the trip from Boca to Fayetteville.........maybe someone nearby the vehicle can check it out. If the numbers don't match........you walk.

yeah, that prob would work.

but if it seems like too good to be true....it probably is.

that black car would be worth $4k with a blown motor. $405 would not buy the wheels.

Your SDL seemed like a deal that was too good to be true. It was only partially true due to the condition of the body.........but.........it still was an excellent deal.

They're out there.

Wrong VIN# ?

Yes strange as it seems; I am in S. Florida & the car is in Fayetteville;
but

My parents are on their way driving down from NYC to Florida ( in their "new" )
93 4 matic wagon; and the radiator leaked out in NC; and they are now stuck in FAYETTEVILLE until at least Tuesday, when the MB dealership there opens up on Tuesday.

I guess it's possible somehow they could see the car.

Probably couldn't determine condition, but could certainly take a look at the title and verify the VIN against the number on the dash.
