What? Can't a person change their point of view? I think Israel is our friend and we need to do everything we can to help them. If it means that 103,000 people have to die to secure the safety of the only democracy in the region, then so be it. Israel is our friend, they do a lot for us, and we need to support them.

Wars are always about wealth and (secondarily) spreading or maintaining one's culture. Long ago we discovered the massive amounts of money that were to be made in the defense industry and have ridden that horse to the present day. Look at how much the working American pays in taxes and how much of that (isn't it 35-40%-I don't know my figures on this?) gets spent on defense. Throw in the need for humans to spread their beliefs, ways and customs to the "uninformed" of the "rest" of the world and you have the recipe for continuous war of some sort, somewhere. In the current situation, oil is just the gravy and another cog in the "wealth" machine. Plus our (U.S.) culture depends on it so there's lots of interconnectedness going on.

We need to support them as long as we have common interests. The day we don't, the birds can have them for all I care. Yes, it is horrible of me. I have learnt to face that truth and the truth has set me free.

As long as we get something out of it, why not? Life is a practical business. If you have something I want and I have something you want, we do business. If not, oh well. I'm still your friend but it does suck to be you.

Our culture depends on it because others we work with depend on it. Therefore we too depend on it. Just like in a neighborhood, my $300K house will lose value if I am living next to a cesspool or there is a cesspool in the neighborhood. As such, we have to get rid of the cesspool. Now, if you have a worm eaten corpse in your front lawn but you are in a different region where it doesn't affect me, I could care less.

I'm not exaclty sure how to interpret your mindset.
First of all:
I will be the one to decide, if I would want to risk my life for anybody else.
All this "to die for" ambition, is nothing but picture book heroic BS.
You want to do it, fine you go right ahead.
However all the good cause, schools, teaching them....democracy...yadayadayada, gimme a break.
And maybe you can tell, were exactly their 150K troops are stationed?

I know, isn't is silly to blame things on the Jews? I mean some people say that Saddam would have gotten more power and control of the region had he captured Kuwait -- which would have threatened Israel, our friend and only Democracy in the region, as well as stability of the region. But do you think that is true? As far as Bonia and Somalia, etc. -- I hear about them all the time.
