To put it simply, we need them there and they need us to support them. Just like at my job. I need the money and the company needs me to work. Can anyone tell me that they believe the first Gulf War would have gone as smoothly as it did if Israel had decided to fly a few sorties and what not into Iraq? Remember, Hussein tried to provoke them into a fight by tossing Scuds into their territory. We told them to hold off because Hussein wanted to make it a Jewish arab thing. I believe that if they had even sent a missile back, it would make things a whole lot messier. So, we need them there to hold the fort and they need us to help them out. Also we cooperate on other covert operations. For now, it is a marriage made in heaven. I don't see why we can't understand that. Now, if the arabs were to suddenly die off, well, Israel can go on it's own merry way and so can we. At that point, it will be a quickie divorce.

I'm not so sure if "we need them there" was the actual intent in the first place.
Now, certainly.

On the day of the 9-11 attacks, former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was asked what the attacks would mean for US-Israeli relations. His quick reply was: "It's very good…….Well, it's not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy (for Israel)"

Yet, I think they need us there more than the other way around, as far as influence goes:

On October 3, 2001, I.A.P. News reported that according to Israel Radio (in Hebrew) Kol Yisrael an acrimonious argument erupted during the Israeli cabinet session last week between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his foreign Minister Shimon Peres. Peres warned Sharon that refusing to heed incessant American requests for a cease-fire with the Palestinians would endanger Israeli interests and "turn the US against us. "Sharon reportedly yelled at Peres, saying "don't worry about American pressure, we the Jewish people control America."

You wouldn't want to argue with the late Ariel Sharon on that one

Not sure it is state mandated infanticide. They can have 1 child without any penalties. More than that, they have some sort of penalty. They want sons and don't want the penalty so they kill the baby girl. Not sure I would equate that with state mandated infanticide.

probably the US, we are adopting the little girls right and left. I read an article where there is now a shortage of women for marriage over there.

Well, the US people are trying here but it is very involved and bribes are often used to speed up the process.

The problem is that girls are abandoned or killed because according to chinese tradition, they need a son to carry on the stupid family name.
