Question Is Monster.com worth it?

I'm looking for a new job somewhere higher, cooler, and drier than the High-Crime Drainage Ditch, and I've posted my resume on Monster. Their commercials are easy to see through ("Double your chances of getting the job by posting on Monster.com!" Right; if you had 1 chance in 100, your odds soar to 2 in 100! Zowie!).

Have any of you found it really helpful? Found a real job? What can I expect it to help me with?

Be prepared to get lots of calls from recruiting companies and that's about it.

I landed my current job through a recruiting company (not through Monster though), so they're not really that bad I guess. But they just don't get the hint, I never call them back and I've been at my current job for about 10 months, yet these damn recruiters call me practically weekly.

Justin's right. And....

You may also start off geting about 3 emails a week from insurance companies looking for sales staff. We had a part time cleaner/prep tech here early last year who used our computer and email address when he posted his resume. We still get emails from Liberty National Recruiters and United American from time to time. They seem to come in waves.

He did move on (up, I’m happy to report) but with no thanks to Monster.com

What do you do?

We’ll be hiring for a few positions here in another month or two.

What type of work are you looking for?
Do you know anything about private jets/aircraft in general/helicopters/fine catering/mixed drinks/luggage/jet fuel/scheduling/travel........?

I've tried several routes like that and was surprised to have gotten more interviews from Careerbuilder.com than all the rest put together. No job offers I was really interested in yet, but a lot of interest. Try that if yu haven't yet. You might be surprised.

Good luck escaping the "crime-ridden drainage ditch." That's good, I'll have to remember that.

Dee8go, thanks for the nod on the line; I wish I could grab credit, but I think I read it here -- perhaps Botnst was the one who said it first. In any case, it's so accurate nobody could deny it.

WVOtoGO, I think I know what you mean. Wal-Mart's Data Processing Center in Arkansas just e-mailed me with a list of IT positions, none of which I'm qualified for (!).

My degree is in computer information systems, and I worked in the field as a programmer, systems analyst, and technical writer from 1995-2001. The bottom fell out of that, and I went back to my old homeland, New Orleans, and wound up as the Executive Secretary (read: "office manager") of one of the academic departments at a large private university. I use my computer background (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Dreamweaver, FireWorks) very heavily to organize the department's work.

Where is "here"?
