A friend of mine(the one with the ML320 CDI) gave me his old iMac G3 that was taking up closet space. I have a keyboard, mouse and the power connection with the unit.As well as all the associated discs..

The machine will turn on but stick on the screen with the apple logo. The keyboard does not seem to be working with the machine since I cannot eject the disc.

I wonder if I can upgrade it and run leopard or something better than what is on it.

I have a G3 iMac DV that is running 10.3

7 years straight and counting on my iMac DV G3 400. Shes running 10.3 as well.

there is a hole on the cd tray that will force it to eject if you insert a paper clip... try that and let us know if it works

Try holding the Shift key down during start up . . . that's Safe Mode.

What speed/color? There should be a sticker on the underside.

Turn it on and hold Command (apple) + Option + P + R until it dongs a second time. If it does not boot after this, you can use a paper clip to manually eject the disc. Insert the system install CD and hold C after you hit the power button. From there you can run disk first aid or install a fresh system.

the colour of the unit is Indigo.. Which means it is not one of the early units (Bondi blue)... So hopefully it is from 2001-2003.

Can I put a larger harddrive in this machine and at least 1 gig of ram so I can have loads of space for my music and toys with OS X

With 1gb of memory and a larger harddisk, it should run fine for basic operations. Still will lag ripping DVDs or doing photoshop work.

I will probably only use it for email, internet, iTunes, and the cool fetures with Tiger.. I will have my winders laptop for my engineering programs until I can afford a Dual core for dual boot... I have looked on the website and If I know my friend well he got the high end indigo blue model with a 500MHZ processor.

Boze Breasts anyone? Guess where the woofer and tweeter are?

I did what forced said with the disc but now its at a screen post load with the background and no log on screen. The ejecet button on the keyboard does not seem to work

I did find out the specs on it by looking underneath it

Plus it has an airport wireless card in it.. score!!!

As long as you don't need a laptop (I'm assuming you don't since you currently have an iMac), I would buy one of the iMacs: http://www.apple.com/imac/

The base model starts at $999 and is packed to the gills with computing power. If you're a student you can get them for quite a bit cheaper, so maybe going with the next model up would be a better idea.

Stop spending money on your Mercedes for a month or two and you should have enough money to buy one
