Odd question

I want to go to my senior prom in a nice car ya know.. My 300D.. is nice but.. what girl wants to go in a loud clattery diesel with crappy paint..

Im wondering.. who here would be crazy enough to loan me a nice mercedes for a few days... I would even pay for the fuel, have it detailed by a pro, pay for the borrowing period and anything else...

I went to the prom in my Camry, because I didn't give a crap. But yeah call in a favor or something, I probably could have gotten my hands on an at the time new S430, or XJ8 if I cared enough to ask.

If you know anyone who trusts you and you just want to borrow it for the night.

What about the E300D that was at the get-together? Haven't seen Rick post lately, but if you promise not to drink anything caffeinated that day, he might let you borrow it.

When I was a sophmore in hs, I bought a freshman in college a case of beer to drive my date and I in my mom's suburban. Can you imagine the possibilities? Pulled a similar my senior year, albeit with a conversion van, my junior year, well, I was at another school

Be creative. Anyone that would let you borrow a car for such an occasion is odd indeed.

I went to senior ball in an SL600.

I went to my senior homecoming in an ML320.

I went to my Junior homecoming in an Acura NSX.

I went to Junior Prom in an E55.

If you were closer, I could talk my parents in letting you borrow the G or the SL.

I remember my Junior prom like yesterday. The car was my bosses, and I traded him the use of my families boat for the use of his car.

Well, I had a friend named wesley, and he brought his dads G35, and was showing it off to hella people. Well, I roll up, and instantly become the center of attention. I was like great..... After prom, he challenged me to a bit of a race. Well, I accepted.

I ended up showing him what Germans can do to a Sedan. He has not said a word about how nice his dads G35 coupe is since.

Times have certainly changed. When I was going to proms many moons ago, the focus was on getting laid--everyones' parents had nice cars that had already been ragged.

This had me thinking about what I drove to prom.
A freshly laquered, triple black, '73 Eldorado with only 13k mi. A magic carpet ride!

I drove my mom's '78 Chevette to my prom. My girlfriends' parents told me that there was no way they would let her go if I was driving my '67 SS Camaro, so me and mom swapped cars for the night. I still laugh my a** off when I think of mom smoking the tires after bingo let out.

if you were closer, you could use the SDL. Still makes a diesel noise though.
I think I used family's '62 Ford G500 wagon for prom. But my cousin let me borrow his '69 Camaro 396-325 for the Christmas dance. (he was as crazy as I was). Lotta guys back then just cleaned the heck out of their regular car.
Few years ago, daughter and a group of her friends talked the school into letting them borrow one of the schools 15 passenger buses. I had to drive it (I'm on the school insurance anyway). Scrubbed the heck out of it and they decorated it and I put up Christmas twinkle lights running on a 12volt inverter. Really looked pretty good. And seven (relieved) sets of parents knew how they kids were getting to and from. Go in with a few buddies and rent a stretch limo if need be. (driver will have a no-puking rule).

IMHO,

No doubt. I would spend the money on a nice hotel room and room service for the after party, if they even do that anymore.

There is nothing wrong with taking your 300D, heck, get a pro to detail it and you reap the benefits long after the prom.

Now that is an impressive ride for such a fete!

da Don, seriously, the only person that will be impressed by the car you show up in at the prom is you. If you want to impress your date, learn how to dance. And not to rap music (unless like at my school there were two proms).

Now that's funny. I went to highschool with a girl who drove a real rusty and ratty 1969 300SEL 6.3. One day, after school, she gave me a ride across campus to my car. With a sly grin and without saying a word, she drove right onto the baseball field and did some doughnuts that I will never regret -edit-nor regret. This, from a mousy girl who drove like a grandma 99.9% of the time.

Goes to show, you never know.....
