craigs list rules.

so yesterday i got inspired to clean the place out and posted i think 16 ads for everything from a 1950 cadillac grill to a oak church pew. this morning i have emails saying that they have taken down six of them. they offer no reason and simply say i can go to a forum and talk about it. i skimmed their rules but didn't see anything there either.

do they have rules against multiple listings in one ad? like saying parts for 82 mercedes 300td then listing several things? i did this several times.

i am not sure how to figure out which ads are gone even. anybody have the ins and outs of this already figured out?

i also got an email asking a question that seemed wrong for the item and suspecting a scam i deleted it.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have found Craigslist to be full of weirdos. If you are buying something, people tend to over-exaggerate. If you are selling, expect either no-shows or people trying to chew you down about 75%.

For me, unless I am looking for a unique automobile close by, I just go to eBay.

tom -- create an account with craigslist and you can view all the ads you have posted. they are color-coded so you know which are active, which were removed by flagging, which were removed by staff, and which have expired, etc... easy way to keep tabs on everything. from what you described, i don't know why they would have taken your ads down.

btw, dig the all-lowercase? that was just for you!

just giving you a hard time!

thanks, man.
i will follow your advice on the account and stuff. i hope i am not sorry i used the craigs list. maybe having some of the ads gone is a blessing in diguise.

another ee cummings fan i see!

i am glad you find it amusing. i never fail to be astounded that some folks seem to think it is a deliberate attempt to humiliate them.

i am just lazy.

I have been experimenting with using caps. I think it looks more professional.

but sometimes i just get in a hurry

CL is a nice resource... it's free, so you really can't beat it. With big-ticket items (like cars), you'll get tons of tire-kickers, so don't waste too much time on replies (or have a canned response ready), and be prepared fro lots of scam attempts. I have had good luck selling on CL, however, so give it another try. Did you list them on the Lafayette CL or the Indy one? I would pick the bigger one, or list them on both (but with different wording, as they won't allow duplicate postings on different city sites).

Give it another try! Maybe list using a CL-only email account, if you're worried about weirdos pestering you. Create a yahoo mail account and use that maybe?

"Experimenting with using caps," huh? Now THAT'S funny! I can deal with the lower case; what bothers me are comma splices and/or 3+ line sentences. Yikes!

Lightbulb *** Check your "SENT" folder... ***

Tom,

Depending on the browser you're using - or the E-mail system you have, you might have a copy of the original E-mail sitting on your computer...

See if your browser has a "SENT" folder - then you'll be able to dig up and compare what got "sent and kept" and what got kicked out...

hey,i buy ,sell, trade, oncraigslist 3-4 times a month.ive began figuring out that it seems to help eliminate the competition buy flagging your posts.easy trick to help that is to first, type in your item as if you were searching for it,then see how many others were posted most recently.it seems to be if theres no recent competition for item -x-,, then you have a better chance when nobody is looking so to speak.theres an 190e only needs a timing chain??? on there right now that i know what she says is true and if 1500 is the asking, shed take 1200 im sure and its a nice car !,im in nashville too and im sure of what i say at least about our areas c.l.,,,it is a shame. just keep trying, for as much as ive done ive figured out the system to delegate when to sell what.sounds silly, but theres almost a trick to it.oh,yes,be real careful about an add asking about you relaying info to a shipper.those are out of south africa and the u.k.,,and yes they are big time scams.

I enjoy the interaction with flakes when I try to sell items, but I have bought several cars, several sets of wheels and tires and have a good time picking through the ads. My success in selling has been just about zilch, I get lots of lowball replies, lots of no-show's, lots of aggravation, but what the heck, it's free.

I had pretty good luck with CL. But you do get what you pay for.
