Speaking of blues, I heard Maria Maldaur on on XM's "Bluesville" (ch 74). She's a good singer. I hadn't heard much out of her since "Midnight at the Oasis", which was a sensual little song. She's done a lot of the classic female blues numbers and does a good job on them. Her, "Dontcha feel my leg" is memorable.

Ahhh Yes. And who's that "crappy" keyboardist ...Rick Wakeman....Friggin best music ever put on vinyl. IMHO. Oh, and the bass player is kinda good too.

I'm not a huge Guns and Roses fan, but the solo towards the end of November Rain is pretty awesome.

I heard someone above mention Eric Clapton and the Beatles song? I think that song is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," I was pretty surprised to find out Clapton did the guitar.

After hearing it again, I wasn't that surprised.

I've always loved Hendrix, Page; Clapton. Nugent was a favorite for years and he can light up a guitar-saw him live 3X. Joe Satriani is as fast as they come, Chet Atkins can make a guitar sound like an orchestra. With regard to new talent, I am actually liking John Mayer (sp?) lately. He has that ragged out old Stratocaster and his solos really "fit" instead of overshadowing the song.
The more I think about it the more great ones I think of. Brian May (rumor was he used a quarter for a pick), Eddie Van Halen (have you SEEN him lately? He looks like Keith Richards' brother), Alvin Lee, Peter Frampton....
My favorite solo is probably a Pink Floyd song (I can't think of the title right now). It's slow and soulful and fairly long and has a great guitar solo.

"Joe's" last solo form 'Joe's garage' (before he goes berzerk) is pretty freaking good. i remember the first time i heard it, stoned on a variety of drugs, middle of the day waiting for a dead show that night in philly! at the end of the solo zappa comes on as the 'Central Scrutinizer' and says "see? music can get you pretty F&#@ed up". uh, i agree!

A while back.....I saw Mahavishnu Orchestra open for Santana ( or visa versa..)
on Long Island at the Nassau Colluseum...
During the Mahavishnu part Carlos Santana comes out to join John McLaughlin, and they jam off eachother for a couple of minutes & then Eric Clapton comes out and the 3 of them just go blazing out after eachother for at least a good half hour. At the peak of the 3 of them whaling Carlos in the center, just throws his arms up in submission 'cause he couldn't keep up or go on. They weren't Hendrix, but this was a real treat...



I have heard this to be true, that at the Monterey Pop Festival that The Who was scheduled to take the stage after the new guy Hendrix, but when Peter Townshend found this out he insisted that The Who play before Jimi Hendrix. He was quite aware that if you are a lead guitarist it would be non climactic to go on after Hendrix.

So my 2c Hendrix .....Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock, or anything else he did. Voodoo Chile ; no one could play lead guitar liks while singing. He could.
