There is one I found based in New Zealand. Nice, but not very useful if you need to deal with US standards and building codes.
This one may be more of what you need: http://eichlernetwork.com/chatterbox_lounge/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=7a8f0db57471dc18b831eda3ebb8988e

I don't know of any forums but I have found that Books are an endless source of knowledge on this, start with a basic home repair or remodel guide from a bookstore like amazon. Use it as your base and purchase more specific books when you are doing a project that is not specifically covered.
Built my own house like this, although I now know a few contractors and find that there are many many different tricks and shortcuts, some good some hacks. Learn something new everytime I talk to one of them. They are very surprised at my knowledge across the board when it comes to concrete, framing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc... I could not have told you which end of a nail to hit 4.5 yrs ago

I used to subscribe to This Old House and watch their TV shows. They tend to lean towards more expensive products, but they do have a lot of good info. Plus, if you're more of a visually-oriented person, it's better to be able to see how things are done than to read about it.
Congrats on getting a house. It can be just as satisfying to fix up as an old Benz. Plus, you're more likely to get the money you spend on it back when you sell it!

I've found a couple that are pretty good:
http://www.homerepairforum.com/forum/plumbing/ http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=400559#post400559 The first is for general information, the second is the John Bridge tile forum -- everything you ever wanted to know about tile setting, leak proof showers, etc. Both are vBulletin. A friend of mine says that Fine Homebuilding has a good one but I think there's a fee involved. If you can find a library that has a collection of those, that's a pretty good resource. Index in the year ending issue, IIRC.
