One-lunger engines, marine or stationary. Something about the "hiss-pop".

And the gurgling sound a coffee maker makes when it's done brewing.

A couple of years ago we went out on the "Graceful Ghost" a small steam powered paddle boat on Lake Caddo near Uncertian Texas.
I sat right next to the engine room and will never forget the soothing sound of the engine barely audible over the churning paddle wheel.

I watched the captian load up the boiler with pieces of scrap oak from the cabinet shop up the road. Free fuel!

Most of last week we had a B-17 visiting our town. It would fly over several times a day ($500 45 min tours). That was pretty nice. It was at more of a "high idle" than really wound up, but still... it was a good sound.

Subaru 2.5 turbo boxer motor with a decent catback exhaust. My old WRX had a grumble that was hard to not smile at.

Moto Guzzi anything with open pipes, at full song, makes my hair stand on end.

Believe me, when you're in the nose, it doesn't sound anything like that. Still good tho...

It looks like most here like loud machines. Running massive concert sound systems makes me appreciate the quieter machines.

In no particular order.

A pre-1970 BMW motorcycle at idle.
A radial engine at any speed but full-honk is best.
A P-51 Mustang with it's ears pinned back.
Anything by Mozart.
Tom Scholz' (Boston) guitar work.
Harry James' trumpet.
Tommy Dorsey's trombone.
Artie Shaw's clarinet.
Itzhak (sp?) Perlman's violin.
Military jets at air shows. The B-1, F-15 and F-4 are most notable.
My wife singing in the shower. (Might just be the best)
My kids laughing.
A V-12 at any speed.

I'll probably think of more but that's enough for now.

Strictly speaking no,but the man,and on occasion the woman will go thru mechanical motions somewhat akin to machinery.

As Jack Nicholson said in The Missouri Breaks, when asked about a visit to a whore,"like a swiss watch, same movement over and over".......................
