Read about your Basal Metabolic Rate. - links to wikipedia

Food grows, it does not come from a factory. Do not eat industrial products. Eat everything as close as possible to the way it grows naturally.
I'd like to know if you don't agree with any of my advice in this thread (seriously... and why... I am always interested in learning more.)

Thanks, Pete

I don't recall the measurement in grams but a bottle of Snapple Iced Tea will send my blood glucose up above 180 and it takes over two hours to come back down into the 80s or 90s.

I don't feel like reading the thread again to check your posts but one thing I remember is the protein. You can overdo protein, especially if you are not a kid. Basal Metabolic Rate again, you need enough protein to support your muscle mass, no more. Excess protein is still an excess.

edit: This is a little misleading. The point is to feed the size you should be instead of the size that you are.

If you burp, fart, have indigestion or acid reflux you probably eat too much.

Your body works full-time to eliminate CO2. ( see Krebs cycle ) Drinking carbonated beverages is counter-productive.

I can agree with the protein comment... he's almost 40 and seems very active. Hence why I was taking it that direction. None-the-less I think most folks get waaaaaaaaaay toooooo little protein and too much HFCS and other crap.

Dude of course it'll spike your blood glucose, a bottle of Snapple is like 200+ calories and it's all HFCS! If you did 200+ calories in sugar all at once you'll see the same spike also.

Yeah, BUT I'd rather get that sugar from raw cane juice and not some processed child-killer HFCS. (That's what it is you know! We're killing our children with the crap) -- Not to say 200 calories from any sugar is great, but it is a zillion times better from raw cane juice, that isn't processed.

Get a tester and try it. The testers are really cheap and then you won't have to guess. Nothing else that I tested was as severe as HFCS. Someone who drinks several soft drinks in a day is likely doing serious long-term damage to their bodies.

Nah doesn't matter for me. HFCS or not I metabolize sugars pretty fast.

I never did any type of diet until a couple of years ago when I tried the Atkins diet. I wanted to lose weight, but primarily, I wanted to change my eating habits. This is because too many of my friends were developing adult-onset diabetes.

Like most Americans, I had way too many simple carbohydrates in my diet. These turn to sugar almost instantly in your system and are stored as fat if not used up immediately.

Now, I am forty pounds lighter, eat primarily meat (chicken, pork, and beef), and mostly complex carbohydrates like brocholi, cauliflower, etc. I have lifted weights consistently for over thirty years and do moderate cardio workouts.

Since I started the Atkins diet, my cholesterol has gone down, blood pressure has gone down, and blood sugar has gone down. My love life has improved, I've made lots of new friends (thanks to this forum), and life eeez gooooood!

Having said all that, I really think that each person has to find what works best for them. It's not a "one-size-fits-all" world. Good luck to you!
