Don't believe everything you think.
I can think of dozens of scenarios where that could happen and you could to if you hadn't made up you "mind" that it couldn't happen. Don't believe everything you have closed your mind to...

Wait!

Is the ladies name Evette Mimeaux? (sp?).

If so the story is easily believable.

(This is an ancient reference to Andy Williams' wife only ancient relics like me would have a chance of relating to).

Actually a 22 loaded with shorts and partly blocked by a pillow might leave an emminently survivable wound.

I have seen several stories about guys shooting themselves in the head with power nailers and surviving it. Nothing like a 16 p in the cranium for a headache!

Does anyone remember that famous case in neurology where a man had a length of pipe embedded in his head? There was an explosion which sent a piece of hot pipe through this guy's head. It cauterized the wound immediately but it affected the guy's Broca's area or something. It was in one of my old textbooks, for some reason I can't find it on the web.

Goes to show you actually that books are still a good source of information.

Are you perhaps thinking of Phineas Gage? Google away!

I saw the iron dynamite tamping rod that entered his scull right above one of his eyes and exited the top of his head.

He lived for some years after that but his personality was drastically changed and he died in the gutter an alcoholic, IIRC.

I can't remember where it was though.
