Nature, travel, animal, hunting, fishing, action, adventure, educational all rolled into one.

And the host is pretty funny as well.

Entertaining. But not that impressive.

I’m impressed by his military career, but not too much by his show. The guy goes all out to make you think he’s some super wilderness survivor, and he may well be. But geezzz - the guy has a complete film crew in tow, everywhere he goes. Set to “...intervene, only in an emergency...”

Now Les Stroud on the other hand. He’s far more impressive. He’s dropped off solo, for a week. Does his own video work. And there’s even more to the guy than his show “Survivorman”. Check out his personal web site. http://www.lesstroudonline.com/

If I was stranded out in the middle of anywhere with either - I'd take Les Stroud, for sure.

My bil and 11 yo nephew are keeping a journal of the show. I have taken my nephew on a few extended boat/camping trips, so I can't wait to see what he will come up with on the next one!

I only saw a bit of one of the survivorman shows, and the going alone aspect is impressive. I understand his new season is about to start up again so I will keep on the lookout for it. The benefit of the film crew for the viewers however is some great helicopter shots of some pretty beautiful country, like the cloud forests of Equidor, the French Alps, and well, just about everywhere he goes. I enjoy the show because it really combines just about everything worth watching on television into one program. Also it's refreshing to see someone who comes across a poisonous snake in the woods who doesn't automatically sprint over to try and grab a hold of it.

JD, make sure they don't have you sampling the foraged mushrooms until you've seen them make it through the night on a bellyfull.

I really enjoy the Man vs Wild series! Cannot wait to see the Survivorman as well.

Man vs wild is good but I like Survivorman somewhat better.

Survivorman is better IMO, not so produced. That Bear fella brings a flint and knife with him everywhere he goes, survivorman doesn't. I'd like to see the both of them together though, land them on the moon and see what happens. See if they can build a rocketship back to earth!

Ditto on the Man vs. Wild V. Survivorman. I enjoy watching them both but Survivorman is a a bit more impressive in that he has little more that the clothes on his back (well, and a few cameras) and he's dropped off alone.

I've often wondered if he leaves a camera or two behind rather than setting it up for a segment and hiking away then hiking back to get the camera and repeating the process.

Both are good, entertaining shows.

I just heard something on the radio while parking the car a few minutes ago - seems this Man vs. Wild guy has been staying in hotels while supposedly "roughing it" and has even used a raft or boat in the show which was prefabricated by a construction crew.

If you want to get real, go to NOLS in Baja or OB in NC or CO for a few weeks.

I like both guys. Although they both are there to teach about various survival techniques I think they have a different slant. Les Stroud is out on his own so he has to, out of necessity, take things slower and easier with less risk than does Bear Grylls. Bear Grylls can afford to take the risks since he has some line of communication back to civilisation (Stroud probably does too, but I don't know). I'm looking forward to next season of Survivorman. I'm not going to fault Grylls though; dude eats bugs and drinks his own pee to prove a point...

Haven't seen Survivorman but I watch MvW often. Bear has a good sense of humor and the British accent adds to that. Besides, anyone who can squeeze the "juice" out of a basketball-sized lump of elephant $h1t into his mouth is one mean SOB.

Exactly, if you want to get real real try a SERE course, the military is now outsourcing the course and civilians can take it. Its a tv show and the guy does some balsy stuff and takes some risks that I would think twice about unless I had a pack of bad guys on my ass. I liked the episode where he climbed down that Mesa that would be some scary stuff without equipment.

I did it 1 3/4 times I should say 3/4 and 1.
