carwash damage dilemma

I did post this in tech forum above but this is more of an ethical question... I foolishly took my 83cd to an auto carwash and the kid sprayed undiluted green "bug cleaning" liquid all over my hood and across the roof. It has actually marred the paint to such an extent that our local detaining expert says there is nothing more he can do. When the polish is fresh and it is not too easy to see the ripples but when wears off after a couple of weeks, it is very visible. The car is original and does have some scratches and marks on the paint but this has just put it over the edge as far as the paint looking good goes. My question is what should I demand from the carwash (owned by the mayors brother!) without being a total jerk? They are waiting for me to tell them what I expect from them... To ask for the car to be repainted, I think, is too far as the paint was not perfect before. I thought I could ask for another buffing but I am worried it they will go right through and then I would HAVE to get it painted. But whatever happens, I still lose the 'all original' attraction...
Why would that liquid have caused such damage? What would you demand in compensation?
Sorry for long post.
GREAT and very useful forum!
