You have probably all heard this before but.....
Why the infatuation with weight? Your bodyweight doesn't tell the whole story. The important numbers are blood pressure, cholesterol and body fat percentage. It is quite possible to be 6ft tall, 245lbs and have 4% bodyfat. It is also quite possible to be 6ft tall, 245lbs and have 40% bodyfat. Healthy is somewhere in between. I currently am at @16% bodyfat, but I prefer to try to stay at 12-14%.

My experience is that simply reducing or if possible eliminating pasta, rice, bread and potato from my diet works the best at lowering bodyfat quickly. Obviously the remaining food intake should be as healthy as possible, moderately low in fat and high in veggies and fruit. Drink at least two quarts of water a day.

That's true. Muscle weighs more than fat does. I guess if we wanted to be more accurate we could all post our body fat per centages.

When I did the Atkins diet a couple of years ago, I lost 40 lbs. I also lost four inches around my waist which had accumulated over the previous 15 years. Maybe that's a more accurate way to state things.

I did the Atkins 2 summers ago and lost a quick 20+ lbs.

I managed to gain it all back. It's a good way to jump start a diet, but you have to shift into a meal plan that's well rounded and something you can live with... forever. Something I failed to do.

I was actually doing it primarily to change my eating habits after several co-workers developed diabetes. I was afraid I would end up in the same place. The crap I was eating before, I quit and have managed to not start again. A lot of eating behavior seems to be mostly habitual.

Yep. I should have switched to a simple small 4 meal a day plan. Fruits, veggies and lean meat. Easy enough. My wife cooks very low cal meals, but a lot if it is Cambodian stuff- not to my liking.

By November, the knee should be good to go and I can get back to a regular exercise routine,

I see people out jogging with those plastic sweat suits on and have to laugh. Once you get done and drink a couple glasses of water, you've gained it all back again.

The building where I live already mimicks an Edward Albee play resplendant with characters, myself included. The condum bored may have a problem with me traypsing(sp) around the building in a Hefty garbage bag tied at the ankles with those twisty ties....humm Halloween costume.

No, there was an "incident" involving some Saran wrap a few years back so I stay away from it.

Not a very good week, but at least it's still down.

Weight doesn't tell the whole story. But if you're a fat ba$tard like myself, it's an easy way to guage whether or not I'm going in the right direction. Even at my basketball/football weight in my younger days I was still 235, still considered overweight by the charts. If I were any lighter than that I'd look waifish.

Well, we certainly don't want you looking waifish!

Just keep up the good work. You can do it, Swamp. I always figured weight that got packed on slowly wasn't likely to come of too fast. Besides, most of the time when people lose weight too fast, they tend to gain it all back just as fast. Steady as she goes . . .
