Get Healthy-
In light of Diesels thread yesterday about his heart attack, I wanted to start a thread for those of us trying to change our wanton ways and get healthy. If you have weight to lose or just need alittle encouragement with an exercise regime post it here. Pointers are also welcome if you'd had success let us know how you did it.
I'm trying to lose 10 pounds before the winter comes. I have lost 2 so far. Changing bad eating habits is not easy. I have purged the kitchen cabinets of all "snicky-snacks" and am increasing my walking. I will post my loss(hopefully) here every week.

Damn snacks are my achilles heel. It's real tough now that football season has begun and I'll have at least 8 tailgates to make it through. But I have been walking every morning for about 3 weeks and do feel better already. The weight is just starting to come off now with little to no dietary changes so if I could cut the crap out it should come pretty easily. Now that I've got 4 kids pulling me in all different directions, keeping it off shouldn't be too hard.
I'd love to get down to 240, 250 is reasonable. So only 25-35 to go.

Best advice I have is walk each day. Don't eat any:
Ice cream trans fat corn syrup deep fried anything Yeah that eliminates just about all "processed" food in the supermarket. And be careful of "empty calorie bombs" like Starbucks Frappachinos and jumbo muffins with 850 calories!! And a couple of Costco fish oil pills a day is very good for you and costs about nothing. I believe I got ahold of some bad crab dip yesterday eve and lost about 10lbs last night.
Being somewhat dehydrated already made it a bit scary. Arms felt like they had the circulation cut off just before a controlled slow fall into the bathtub where I remained for an hr or so. I must have gone unconscious for a moment. I feeling pretty beat up this morning. It could a really bad stomach virus but, you might try some crab dip on a ritz. It's changed my eating habits for today. |

well people i lost a lot of weight quickly but please don't do it the way i did! Instead of trying to eat healthy foods all of the time, I just cut way down on all the food i ate, healthy or not. Plus, lots of this weight loss i had nothing to do with since it was muscle loss due to my nerve disease.
To get REALLY healthy, i am trying to now only consume the amount of calories i will need to burn, right before i burn them. No more, no less. that's my strategy anyway. Good luck to all of you out there with a desire to get as healthy as you can be.

I lost 10 lbs in the past 6 weeks or so. My friend gave me some Herbalife stuff and it helps a little. But I'm hungry ALL THE TIME! I just don't eat though. Only 1 small meal a day the rest protein shakes. Some protein bars or soy nuts if I get real hungry.
I want to lose another 10 and get back down below 200lbs. It's not easy for me. When Iwas younger I could shed the pounds in 2 weeks if I wanted. Now I literaly have to starve myself for every pound. I have started to work out and my girlfriend says my gut has gone down a lot. Hopefully when it's all done I can get into a healthy diet and exercise. Danny

With a family and business to take care of, your most precious asset - time - is squeezed to the max. You must make time on a regular basis to tend to your next precious asset - your health. IMO, it's just like trying to quit smoking. It comes down to willpower. You won't quit smoking until you want to. You won't lose weight until you want and are willing to sacrifice (mainly time) to do it. The best motivation for me is in a group setting. Be it aerobics, a gym, yoga or tai chi, kick boxing, whatever. The group dynamic will push you to acheive more than you will by pushing yourself. My best results came from aerobics 3x a week. (Dating a vegitarian at the same time didn't hurt.). Good luck. |

Now that I've retired from the Residential Processed and Imprinted Pulp Distribution business my mornings are free. I tend to sleep late, until 5:30, and go for a 30-45 min. walk before the rest of the family is even thinking about getting up. I'll slowly work up to an hour. I love the solitude, with just the sounds of my walkman or MP3. Food intake is another matter, but my wife has begun an exercise and dietary routine in earnest now that she's done popping out kids. She's started going to the gym during the week when I get home from work and has started cooking healthier for us and keeps a lot of the temptation out of the house. There's hope yet

For a better chance at long term success, make gradual changes to your lifestyle and dietary choices. You didn't pack all the weight on in a month, it's not going to come off and stay off in 30 days either.
Keeping track of what you eat/drink (particularly portion size) and when, not necessiarily your calorie intake, over the course of 4-7 days is information that you can use to learn about behavior. Fall is a great season to start walking around the neighborhood. You don't need to go for an aerobic session, just start out with 10-15 minutes each in the AM and PM. Longer times and distances will develop naturally. Calling something "rabbit food" isn't going to help you. However, substituting a side salad for fries or chips, or doing a few dinners without complex carbs like bread or pasta, isn't torture. |
