Common sense often seems to be in short supply these days on both sides of the security situation. It seems especially low on the Dept. of Homeland Security.

They aren't designed to have common sense. They are trained to do a specific job in a singular way and they execute it with precision...........no free thinking involved. Might as well have a chip installed in their brains.............

I'd rather they have no free thinking than to have it. At least it keeps things consistent instead of everything being a definite maybe. You want to travel and not know whether they will or will not let you thru because they exercised their free thinking? Today you can bring 1 gallon of shampoo because you got Joe. Tomorrow, you get Sam that allows only 1/2 gallon. I'd take consistency any day.

Free thinking does not imply the right to modify specific rules at their whim. It simply means that spending excessive time on an obvious non threatening person doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

If you believe that they can't think for themselves, then the current system is perfect for you.

If you are willing to take the chance, sure.

I don't believe many people can think for themselves. Aren't you the one going around saying "people are stupid" or words to that effect? Would you trust these people to think for themselves knowing that most cannot?

Well, it's a bit of a quandry, I admit.

Naturally, I'd prefer that they use some intelligence and spend their precious time on the potential threats and move quickly past the people that couldn't do any damage to anyone.

But, I suppose that's a pipe dream.

For reference, the statement is "The average person is a moron"

Assuming they have the intelligence to do so, that is.

So is hoping Jenna Jameson, Briana Banks and Tera Patrick are in bed waiting for me. Not holding my breath. Have to be realistic.

So, if the average person is a moron, do you want one of these average people making up a decision using their "intelligence" or would you rather these people play it safe and follow procedure? I know what I would choose. Yes, I know, reality bites.

Hey wait a minute. I'm going to DC to work for Dept. of Homeland Security!

Oh wait common sense? I drive cars with over 200K miles on them daily, live in a 180 year old house (along with all kinds of critters), and am leaving a job on Wall street to work for the government.

Hmm, I guess I am lacking in common sense
