couldn't hurt to wait til your court date.if the cop doesn't show up the judge will have to dismiss the charge.if the cop does show, just plead guilty and go on with life.

When I was about 17 years old, and got my first (and hopefully only, knock on wood) ticket, that's what I did. It was an absurd ticket, and was for a stupid reason (making a right turn on a yellow light, with a cop up my arse. If I hit the brakes, he hits me. If I go, the light turns red with me in the middle of the intersection. Either way, it was a loss). At any rate, I went to court, they plea bargained it down to a "No-points careless driving", at the tune of roughly $280 - 300 bucks.

Yep, about par for New Jersey, "The Tax & Corruption" state. If I didn't work here, I'd move in a heartbeat.

First of all, I am not trying to beat the system. I just want to see if there is a way to get rid of that point. As I said, I don't mind paying the fine. I broke the law and that's that.

I think everybody is entitled to make one mistake, to be precisely, one in 20 years. Just because I drive a sport car that does not mean I am a habitual speeder.

I could have told him I work in the Law Enforcements, Fire and EMS industry but I did not. My Infiniti did not have the license frame that says my "Work Number is 911". It is on the other car. The policeman was a young Hispanic and was rather rude when first approaching my car. He banged my window with his flash light which I did not appreciate. Then he attempted to lure me into an argument, which I just sat there with both hands on the steering and answered every question followed with a "sir" or "office". He was extremely condescending at first, until he found out I have no speeding ticket before, and that I am alot older than he thought. He toned down and was very polite after that. It is because I work with Law Enforcement folks everyday and understand how stressful it is to standing out in the dark highway. I tried to make him feel as comfortable as I could. I even smile a couple of times. When he asked me to sign the ticket, I told him kindly my eye sight is not as good as his, and asked him if he minded shining his flash light on the ticket for me. I did not want to reach in the car to turn on the interior light in case he thought I was reaching for whatever and raise his stress level.

If you had had the other car with the 911 plate you probably would not have gotten a ticket at all.

IN indiana there is a diversion program in most counties or a variation of it in which if you have a clean record you can pay an extra ten or twenty and the fine and if you have no more tickets for six months or maybe a year the points will not be applied.

I am a habitual speeder but careful how I do it. IN indiana mostly you can run 10 over and not attract attention. When in other places I make sure I am not running faster than all the locals, and keep a watch out.

When you have six or eight vehicles insured you cannot afford to have any points on the record. A fender bender will generate a MVR search by the insurance carrier and a couple of tickets plus a fender bender will probably cause a cancellation and subsequent need to buy insurance from a very expensive carrier who specializes in repeat offenders.

You don't want that.

Just call the prosecutor and ask about options. They are happy to oblige usually as long as your record is clean.

I have used the diversion programs and their variations probably nearly twenty times in the last twenty years. My record is always clean.

BTW usually if they see a radar detector you WILL get a ticket. So I have never owned one....also it is a temptation to drive 20 over if you have one.

Funny you mentioned it. I do have the V-1 in my car and the first thing the officer said to me was "Guess that thing didn't do you any good, huh?" He knew there is nothing in the world can beat an instant-on.
