I stopped in Sam's Club and was immediately met at the front of the store with an array of LCD's and plasma's. They were lined up on a pallet rack parallel to the front glass doors. All the plasma's were in front on a 24" high rack. All the LCD's were immediatley behind them at about eye level. It took me a moment to figure out the placement was very deliberate.
LCD's, because of their plastic screens, don't show glare. Plasma's, with glass screens, can show a lot of glare. At eye level, the LCD's did not show any reflection from the bank of glass doors directly behind me. When I stooped to simulate what the plasma's would look like at eye level, the reflection of the glass doors was about the only thing you could see on the screens. The differnence was so striking, I almost changed my thinking to head down the LCD path. My TV will go in the basement rec room. There is only one window in the entire area and it has a curtain and can be completely covered. But I worry about room lighting showing up on the screen. But then I went back to Sears and looked at the Hitachi plasma again for $749. I liked the picture. I'm going to get it. Thanks for all the comments.

My dad got a 32" Vizio LCD, good tv, the power supply went out, but they came out to repair it in about a week, still a very good tv. I am going to get an Olevia LCD next year Probably, if my budget allows...
