A Turkey-pult?

A turkey-gun. (think potato-gun or spud-gun)

On a slightly "bent" note:

I worked for the guy that "launched" a turkey out of an airplane, for a radio-station contest, to have the person capturing the turkey win a grand-prize.

The turkey fell like the rock it was raised to be, through the roof of a dry-cleaning establishment.

The grand-prize ended up being an insurance bill for the repair of the roof and replacement of the busted machinery and damaged clothing. According to what I was able to read, there were no injuries (except, obviously, for the turkey itself!) but a bit of bewilderment.

This incident was the basis for the "WKRP In Cincinatti" episode, where Mr. Carlson throws turkeys out of a helicopter. Les Nessman is doing the live remote and says something like, "...oh the humanity!" all the while people are running to-and-fro in the backround.

The funny thing? The "WKRP" writers/producers were sued by this gentleman, and the case ended up being thrown out due to the fact that there were enough differences in the details of the "incident" that it was considered "public domain" material and as such, could be treated any way the writers/producers wanted. I think the guy was trying to get some money from the show, claiming he was the inspiration of the episode itself...anyways, Carlson's last words, as he was walking through the station's front lobby were, "As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"

I died a thousand deaths that day when I first saw that episode. A few years later, I died a thousand more times when I found out I was working for that guy! :D

PM me for the guy's name and town he bombed. I'm surprised the FAA didn't ground or fine him for the stunt.

Now, as for what I'm doing this T-day...

Jenni-O White in a pan, smashed spud or two, a few of Pillsbury's finest rolls, a tin of cranberry sauce, my yearly vegetable (carrot sticks) and corn.

I might try a bottle of wine...I'm wondering what goes nicely with turkey and has a fruity taste to it? Any ideas/recommendations?

Oh, and before any of that is partaken of...I'm heading down to La Crosse's Annual Thanksgiving Day Community Celebration...I'm volunteering to work the line, or bus tables or whatever is needed to help out the folks.

If I'm lucky, work won't call me in and the Packers will smack the Lions around a bit. But, until that final second ticks off the clock and the ref signals "Game End" - my stomache will be in a knot...Packers have a way of keeping the anti-acid companies in business during the fall and winter seasons. :rolleyes:

The first four of my 23 "immediate family (parents, sister, brother, spouses and kids)" arrive Tuesday night. All staying with us until the following Monday.

Among the turduckens, specklebelly geese, deep fried turkeys already mentioned, I will be cooking two Felt's cured (one year old) hams off my mother's farm in VA and have a good load of oysters coming in on Friday following TG. Dungeoness crabs Saturday, pork shoulder and deboned rabbits Sunday, ect.......it will be our main throwdown this year because we are skipping Xmas for ten days at Disney world in January. I am going to start getting ready.....what time is it again?:D

I think one of the BIG 4 networks should buy the rights to that episode alone, and run it each T-day, just like "It's a Charlie Brown Christmas" or "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" is run around X-mas time...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's white wine. Although whisky would make a drunken turkey quicker than wine. ;)

The "Dancing Ducks" promotion never made it on camera in an episode. It was revealed during the "Real Families" episode that the Tarlek family appeared on, once the show figured out that the Tarleks were lying about everything they launched a "Hard Copy" style investigation that uncovered not only the turkey promotion, but the "dancing ducks" promotion where WKRP did an event for a local department store that featured a group of ducks that would dance on a metal stage every half hour. What made them dance? The electric hot plate that Herb Tarlek installed under the metal stage. The stage would get hot, and voila, dancing ducks.

Herb Tarlek is a hard worker, loyal husband, and all-around good guy.
