I don't know. When not answering the phone can cost me $10K in sales a day; It's worth it for me to be chained to communication. When I'm at the office I always wear my cordless headset. That way I can answer the phone if I'm making a sandwich or taking a piss. Sometimes I forget I'm wearing it and drive somewhere. I usually froward my office phone to my cell when I'm out. I can't wait for the day my phones will automatically froward my calls to a bluetooth headset I can wear for 12 hours a day and will work on an airplane. That will make everything seamless!

FYI: I "HATE" talking on the phone unless I'm selling something. Even internal business conferences make me sick. Glad I run the place, I just hang up or fall asleep whenever I'm done talking.

If I was making $10k a day I'd live with a phone on my ear for 12 hours too.

I'd put up with a lot for $3,650,000 a year.

Ah! You don't know half the $%!# storm I put up with. Everyone whats their copiers yesterday. They can't wait 5 days to have 450lbs land on their door step from across the country. We have a 100% satisfaction rate with all our customers so far though. Patience is a virtue.

Yeah but again, $3,650,000 is a nice big number, lots of digits.

That is sales though. Profit will be quite different.

You got that right. Not nearly as good as the old days.

OP: I digg.

I work at a fair-sized university... the number of kids roaming around jabbering away or texting is staggering. Apparently their motor skills are not fully developed, as it seems to impair their every move -- blocking sidewalks, stairs, checkout lines at the food court, etc... and at the library (read: prime study area), there are constant complaints of people talking jabbering away at louder-than-conversational tones. WTF?

To answer the original question, I'd just like to say that I'm a legend in my own mind . . .

My cell phone ran out of minutes 2 months ago. I meant to recharge it, put it off. Then it got lost. I can't find it. I have a spare one with time on it for when I get on a horse and get lost for the day, but otherwise don't miss the damned thing. Those who know me know better than to expect to reach me on a cell phone. They call the land line, which I rarely answer, and leave a message usually including a message to "please call me back if you get this." Life is good. In the spring I'm taking a trip to the channel islands. I'm taking my son because he has a phone.

I live by my cell, its essentially ground zero for my business.

I organize my entire company from it.

^^^

So do I. However, my cell is set specifically not to BONG every time I get an e-mail. If someone needs to contact me immediately, they can (and will!) call. If it isn't urgent, they'll e-mail. However, I get enough unimportant e-mail that jumping every time my cell BONGs like some Pavlovian dog would be just counterproductive.

Oh, and if I'm out in the evening after hours, it's also off, since if there's an emergency, I wouldn't be able to fix it immediately anyway. And playing with your cell while having dinner with someone, whether it be a friend or a client (the two often overlap anyway at this point) is the rudest thing ever, IMHO.
