Talking I can drink milk again after 26 years

So I have been on an organic food kick for a while now. After reading that raw milk and kefir can help people with milk allergies, I decided to try it. 2 weeks now of drinking milk everyday and I still have NO problems. My 22 mo son loves kefir blended with fruit and drinks it from a shot glass.

I used to be pretty bad off after about 1 cup of milk and it would only take about 20-30 minutes. This is awesome. I'm going to make Creme Brulee tonight.

uh oh

here we go....you knew Gurkha and I (and Bot) would chime in on this one.

But that's awesome news.....as you may remember, my family has been all organic/raw for a couple of years now. I just hope we can keep buying it with relative ease.

Lily (my middle daughter) can't tolerate regular milk at all.....but she can drink raw milk, eat raw cheese, etc and be totally fine. We found that out the hard way, slowly eliminating foods when my wife was still breastfeeding her.

You gotta start making your own organic raw ice cream too, it's the best. Just use a little maple syrup or rapadura, some good cream (obviously raw) and your kids will love it......and frankly, it's good for you.

Hmm, I'll mention that to my brother since his 5yo daughter has milk allergies. What does the kefir taste like? Is it kind of like plain yogurt? (Asks the stooge to the guy who hasn't touched dairy products in 26 years )

tastes may vary -but kefir (to me) is kinda tangy? Almost like yogurt...thickish milk.

Chad, have you tried making kombucha yet?

I have made some chocolate ice cream already My son was very excited about the whole process.

Trips to the farm are going to be a regular thing with the kids. The kids loved the cows and the people there are very cool. I am going to be getting all my milk, cheese, eggs and some meats from them now. They make it all right there where you can see all the processes from behind glass.

I'm setting up 4 raised beds to do my own vegetables in spring.

The kefir tastes like sparkly yogurt but slightly thinner.

Swamp - when (if) we have our PA GTG - you'll have to swing down and we'll stop at the amish farm I go too for some taste testing. A whole string of diesels, chugging down a serene farm lane, I can just picture it now Chad's bringing the beer.

My farmer is great, he shows me everthing too....and seriously, I go whenever I want (although I have to bring my own flashlight). I walk into a little shed attached to his barn, pick out what I want and leave my check on the counter. It's pretty cool.

All I say is welcome to the wonderful world of raw milk. Kefir is indeed elixir of life along with Kombucha which you should give a try as well.

http://www.realmilk.com/where.html Here is the link I used to find a source for raw milk.

Here's a link to my new dairy
Hendricks Farms and Dairy
It's only 10 miles from my house but I can't go there after hours with a flashlight.

Yep, I'd highly recommend letting some of your milk sit out at room temperature too.....let it seperate....and use the whey in everything, especially for soaking grains.

Gurkha, I'm going to order some of those wooden cups you told me about before...thanks for the tip. Previously, you cautioned against contact with metal (even stainless).....so how do you boil/brew the sugar and tea? I tried out the darjeeling tea too....that's some good stuff right there.

And Chad, if you're really serious....I'm sure one of us could ship you a "mushroom" with some starter culture......we have like 50 of them in my house. They just keep having babies so there is no end in sight

If'n you need seeds I know where to find some. Not necessarily organic but all are untreated. A fair amount of heirloom/heritage, mostly open pollinated, some hybrids.

Lemme know.

What else do you do with the whey? I know what to do with the curds. I would appreciate any help getting started with the kombucha. For that matter, it would be cool to hear any tips that would help out a newbie.

Looks like a good farm - it's good to see everything is grass-fed too. It's amazing how yellow real butter is too, when grass fed. Same with fertile egg yolks. They even sell coffee? That's pretty cool. You need to start roasting your own coffee though

The best milk I've ever tasted was from a farm down in Gap/Paradise (actually real close to Nickel Mines, the schoolhouse shooting that made national news?). The have the dutch belted cows there (all black with a big white stripe down the middle) and the milk is incredible.

Thanks for that link, there's a co-op a couple of towns over. As you might imagine CT is hardly a bastion of farming anymore. Finding one to sell raw stuff is even tougher.
