It does not change the voltage.

On their online shop they post a warning:
- Achtung: Dieser Adapter bewirkt keine Spannungswandlung! -

Using hair dryers or curling irons at twice the voltage is dangerous!

Pin adapters have somewhat flimsy internal contacts to make it possible to change the pins without to much force (or make the adapter to big) . The current should not exeed 2,5 amps (110V-275W, 220V-500W).
They are widely used in Europe, most countries have their own plugs, the voltage is always 220-240V

Rob

Thanks. That's what I need. Unfortunately I leave on Saturday so I don't have time to get it.

Check Radio Shack -- they USED to carry one, anyway. I have one at home somewhere, but I don't know that it's good to hair dryer wattages; if I can find it I could overnight it to you for your use, but I honestly don't think it'll do high-wattage. WalMart actually has a few travel odds and ends; you might see what they carry. I know our Super WalMart has european plug adapters.

They don't have actual stores where you live?

I live in the ass backward South and they have 100 kinds of those things at the local luggage store. I seem to recall also purchasing a travel adapter kit at Harbor Freight some time ago for about $5.

I doubt anyone sells a travel step-down transformer thats capable of handling the 10-12amps/1200 watts of a hair dryer. That'd be a beast of a transformer...and it'd let off lots of heat! Not to mention it'd probably weigh 20lbs....

You might try looking at the link Howitzer provided above. They claim that fairly small and lightweight units are available that are suitable for normal use of hair dryers and such.

For application where continuous duty and/or grounded plug are required, they also sell "real deal" transformers expressly for such purposes (and yes, they are heavy as expected).
