I expect it will get worse for a lot of these guys in next few decades like it was for some of our Vietnam vets. They called it shell-shock in WW1 didn't they?

I can often tell when I'm talking with a Vietnam vet. They pause and get expressionless when talk about that war comes up. You can tell there are mental wounds that will never heal. Their experience wasn't helped by the non-welcome they got back home.

Given the quality of the care that some of the vets are receiving, I'd say that they're not getting the best of welcome back home today.

Unless you have been there, I don't think any movie, book, or even first person account can truly give you the true battlefield experience. Warriors are all "wounded", either outside, inside, or both. It is a shame, but all the rehab in the world will probably never get their minds right again. I think that Stalin, after WWII, had most of the battle hardened troops exterminated, as he knew they would never be able to resume normal productive lives. I hope we can do better than that. Very sad.

I don't believe there's a cry for "zero loss" but that it should be this government's responsibility to make all resources available for a situation that was neither unpredictable or extraordinary.
