iPod & iTunes Issue for replacement PC
Hi, my home PC died and had to be replaced. I was able to save the hard drive, so all my data is safe. I have the old hard drive now set up as an external drive to the replacement PC. My issue now is how to set up my iPod on the new PC and not have to start over or create a problem with the music files on the iPod. On the old hard drive I can see the folders for iTunes and iPod. Can I simply move the two folders over to the internal hard drive of the replacement PC? I want to keep this replacement PC as the host or main location for the library of music files. Any pointers on how to set up the PC to support the iPod in place of the former (now dead) PC?

On the new computer, install iTunes and note where the Library folder is located, then copy the old iTunes library folder to the the new drive where the iTunes folder is, you should be okay.

When doing this it would appear iTunes will sometimes "double up" files in the library and one will immediately play the song, while the other will bring up a "help locate this file" error.......it doesn't always seem to happen, but I've seen it before.

OK, I installed a fresh version of iTunes on the new computer. Now where do I find the library folder on the new computer hard drive so that I can copy over the music files from the old computer? What is the name of the folder? I have looked at all the folders on the hard drive under iTunes and can not find anything that looks like the music library.

Yes I can find this on the new computer. The problem was finding the same music files on the old hard drive. The file system is different, may be the difference between XP and XP Professional. I did find the files and was able to copy them over. Now I can see and play the music on my newly downloaded iTunes. I do have one problem, for some reason some of the individual tracks from the same album now show up separated into two or more copies of the same album. Is there any way to consolidate these into one album where they should be?

On the song tracks, right click for the "Get Info" window; there you can specify if the song is part of an album and specify the track number.
