Delayed Wedding

In September my friend told me he was going to get married in a year, so I figured that would be Sept 08. Yesterday I asked him when his wedding would be and he told me in a year, April 09. Meantime he's taking all these vacations to Cali and the Caribbean with this girl and I'm just wondering what's going on.
Why do people delay weddings so much, and is it usually the male or the female who keeps putting it off?

In this country, usually the men are reluctant to take the final step, because they have a pretty good idea about what they will be giving up when they are married.

Women push harder once they have the "rock". (Cynical women go in and have it appraised at a jeweler when they get one off a guy)

More than a few of them are pushing for it so they can start having babies that are legitimate in the law's eyes.

Biology is Destiny ---- all that crap.

Males

Unless a guy is desperate, (there's a few of them) weddings are best to be avoided. At least until a guy is in his early 50s.

Once you touch that hot stove, you wonder why you did it. Ask any married or divorced guy, he'll corroborate this, if his wife isn't in earshot. If he doesn't, it's because she earns more than his lazy self earns, or, in the case of some, her parents give them money to live, house, etc. Which means they own your life too. A lot of guys dig being told what to do, personally, nobody tells me what to do. It's a whole lot easier to gain wealth without someone spending all you earn.

Women always want to get married, the trick is not to. There's no shortage of available women to date, they are in ample supply. Unless you're grotesque in appearance.

he he

The reasons for delaying marriage are endless. My girlfriend wants to wait till her daughter graduates high school. Personally I don't want to wait that long.

To tell someone not to get married is just crazy. Some people have morals and family values. Some people believe in the sanctity of marriage and want to provide a living example to their children. some people don't want their children shacking up with someone & having bastard children running around without any values at all. Some people actually want someone they can rely on and share their life with.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with marriage. Marriage is a beautiful thing. The problem is people are getting married who have no business getting married. People don't work on nourishing and keeping their relationship first. You have to hold your mate above all else and focus your attention on him/her alone. Yes you can have friends but no same sex friends, especially if their not married. Your mate should be your best friend, someone you can't live without. You find that and life will be great.

In my opinion the single most important reason for the breakdown in our society is the lack of values and morals that are NOT being handed down by parents. And not being lived by the parents themselves.
I guess that's what happens when money is your God. When you worship idols (money) you will never have a really fulfilling life.

Is there really a breakdown in our society? I thought that was just all talk, TV news and so forth

This isn't entirely true. If you're really lucky, you might find one who considers marriage to be pointless. Sometimes it can take you until your fifties to FIND one of these, though.

Marriage is a good thing - especially if you stick to it. I'm still on Wife 1.0, and I hope that will be it. I also think many people shouldn't get married - or have children for that matter. Many people are too self absorbed to be able to deal with another person continuously, or be able to make the required compromises that a successful marriage entails.

I love it when married guys try to tell single guys to stay single and ask "Why would any guy get married? Don't make the same mistake I did!"

I guarantee if those guys were single, they would be married again within a few years.

When you are married, you think, man I can't have sex with who ever I want. I have to do all this crap for her. I don't have any freedom.

When you are single you think, man I hate being home by myself right now, I'm so horny. I really wish I had someone to do something with. I hate being alone.

Same guy in both situations. The grass is always greener...

As a single guy that has to work a bit for it, I'd say that having a constant supply would be pretty sweet.

Because when you are trying to pick someone up, and you fail, its your right hand. When you are married you should be good!

I had the weddding invitations in my hot little hand addressed and STAMPED, dress hanging in the closet......and I BACKED OUT. Glad I did, 6 months later he was married to someone else......marriage is not for everyone, not enough closet or shoe space.

If you have even the slightest doubt that this person is the one you want to spend the rest of your life with then you have no business getting married.
When you do get that feeling it's very special and the choice is really a no brainer. It's something you want to do.

I think people who actually get to experiance that kind of love and devotion are extremely lucky.
