Neither. I think that they are either completely narcissistic and don't think for a moment that we are all trying to get somewhere, or they are just completely unaware of their surroundings. Fun or malice rarely figure in.

I have a friend who doesn't like to let cars in his lane. When I'm riding with him he'll often say, "I'm not going to let him in". Then he speeds up and closes the gap. I've often wondered why he does this.

If it requires me to slow down to let someone in, I won't usually do it. This is because more than half the time when I do let someone in front of me, they drive like total slugs and don't realize that they should hit the pedal.

I pretty much don't speed up to prevent someone from taking the space in front of me, though.

Yesterday I was driving and I saw up ahead about 600 feet that the road merges into one. I sped up so I could squeeze ahead of a R107 that was driving alongside of me, well I noticed he/she sped up to block me, well when the road merged there was no where for me to go so I just merged in. Then I got honked at

Whenever I see that my lane is about to run out, I slow down to the speed of the other lane. I will hog the closing lane for 500 feet if possible, to allow people to safely merge in instead of racing to the front and slowing everybody down. I've sat beside semi rigs for quite some time for this reason, and they always let me in right in front of them when we actually get to the line. Usually I get a friendly wave too.

About 5% of drivers try to cut off the line by racing ahead in the closing lane, and without that 5%, the rest of us would get where we are going a whole lot quicker. Usually the conditions allow graceful merging with a bit of a slowdown, but the jerks that cut to the front cause backups.

I figured out a trick for that situation; about 1/4 of a mile before the merge if traffic isn't to heavy take the center. Drive right down the center lane, pisses everyone off.

I do that leaving school all the time because the freaken moron kids all think its some Xbox race trying to merge in at twice the speed limit at the last second. I have had enough close calls to just say F it. I park my big S class right in the freaken center blocking both lanes and give them the finger. Works amazingly well.

That is a reasonable thing to do, provided that people leave enough distance for me to squeeze in. THe person behind the R109 was tailgating but the R109 was not tailgating the person in front of him, so he just wanted to screw me over because he felt inadequate in that I was driving faster than him or something.

I thought this was going to be a thread about pizza. I like Amy's Organic pesto the best. As far as delivery, Domino's is my favorite, probably because I used to deliver for them. Pizza Hut and Papa John's aren't bad. Out here we have a chain called Round Table. The pizza there is good, but overpriced.

I have come to the conclusion that the further away you get from NY the worse the pizza or what they call pizza gets. Even the crap pizza in NY is better than what was supposed to be the best in town that I had in CA.

If someone else's lane is running out, I will let them in... BEHIND ME! There are plenty of a-holes that think just because THEIR lane is running out that they are going to squeeze their ass in FRONT of my car and almost cause an accident. I won't let them.

If Your lane is ending... guess what? You don't have the right-of-way! You must wait and enter a regular driving lane WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO!

Nope. They were mad at you for not merging.

I hate all the idiot drivers that do not merge when a lane is ending. I even go to the extend of leaving enough room for about 5 cars to merge in front of me leading up to the merge point to help lessen the back up of people cutting in at the last minute and everyone behind them slamming on their brakes. However if they wait until the last possible moment I wouldn't feel like letting them in either but I usually leave so much space this doesn't happen.

If everyone merged well before the lane ends there would be no back ups. All you guys that talk about speeding up to get around someone are the ones that cause the backups because everyone behind you has to brake and slow down when you cut into the lane, this includes speeding up to NOT let someone in.

Merge long before the lane ends and let people in!

Nope. Same type of person who will speed up to block you from changing into his lane on the freeway, just a generally pissed off driver. If I am moving faster than you I am damn sure gonna try and get ahead of you so i dont have to be behind your slow ass, nothing personal.
