Thumbs up Thank you for savin' my bacon!

Powerpig, I just have to sing your praises here. Thanks so much for spending most of your weekend rescuing me from that extremely pernicious Trojan horse and the other crap that invaded my computer on Friday. Everything is running great now. I really, really appreciate all you did for me.

You da MAN!

My computer at home crapped out just before I left for Europe and I need to get something done. It won't do anything and I wonder if the power unit is shot.

The key to problem free computer ownership seems to be avoiding the porn sites.

Why the hell is this thing so slow today?

Or an Apple.....

Just kidding.

I never had a problem with a slow computer. Then again, I reformat like 6 times a year.

No wonder. I've got five years on this one..........and have dreaded the possibility so greatly, that I just bought a new machine. The 10 hours required to reformat this one is better spent on new hardware.

Have you, or anyone else, figured out the cause for the slowdown? This machine has absolutely no spyware, no viruses, 1GB of ram, no heavy applications (the total is less than 350MB at any given moment, unless Firefox overloads the CPU). I regularly run Trend Micro, Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Clean-up.

Running Registry mechanic cures 100 "errors" in the registry, but the machine doesn't run any faster.

Anybody know the solution (spare me the "buy a Mac" responses, please)?

Clear your prefetching file. That seemed to speed up a 4 year old laptop I had laying around.

I think I AM going to buy a Mac for personal stuff and just use my Winders machine for work stuff from now on.

Of course, I do spend a lot of my working hours on this site. . . .

That's just letting the machine beat you. Spend another $2K because you cannot fix the problem...........there must be a solution to the perpetual slowdowns that nearly every MS machine inevitably suffers.

I have a Mac and Winders box. I like my Mac for general surfing, but I cannot do any work things on it, as all the applications are written for windows.

Crank up your ram. Defrag your machine.
