I've have his "Class Clown" album in my office...
I may have to play it today, at half volume, for the uninitiated... How many of the original 7 words that couldn't be said, can be said now on radio/TV today? A hell of a lot more than back in the '70s! Hey! George! Say "You mofo'!" to Lenny when you get where you're going! We'll miss the "brain droppings" too.  BTW, he was 71 and died from a heart attack...this I got from CBS a few moments ago...

I have some of his books at my bedside, always good for a laugh. I was really \starting to get into him after thinking he was too intellectual for a long time.
Gotta order some of his albums now. He looked pretty healthy, am I correct in saying he was a big time drug abuser in his youth? I thought I had read that somewhere.

The phone rang at 2.30, it was my grandmother in Houston. She called in the middle of the night to tell my mom Carlin had died. Back in the early or mid 1970s when my mom was a teen my grandparents got her in to see George Carlin, after the show my mom bought some of his cassettes that were being sold in the lobby. +/- 35 years later my mom still has the cassettes, she just found them a few minutes ago. Isn't it something. My grandparents say things are so conservative these days that most parents wouldn't let their children be exposed to a George Carlin.

Comedian George Carlin Dies in Los Angeles at 71
By Martin Weil Washington Post Staff Writer Monday, June 23, 2008; Page A02 George Carlin, 71, the much-honored American stand-up comedian whose long career was distinguished by pointed social commentary that placed him on the cultural cutting edge, died last night in Santa Monica, Calif. His death was reported by the Reuters news agency and on the Los Angeles Times Web site. He had long struggled with health problems and a heart condition dating to the 1970s. Carlin was selected last week by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to receive this year's Mark Twain Prize, a lifetime achievement award presented to an outstanding comedian. Over a career of half a century, Carlin placed himself in the forefront of comic commentators on the American scene. He was particularly known for an album that referred to what he described as the seven words that could not be used on television. The playing of the album on a radio station led to a case that went to the Supreme Court, and the material was judged indecent but not obscene. The legal controversy brought about the enunciation of a rule permitting a ban on certain material when children are most likely to be in the audience. The case was one of the highlights of a career that included TV and radio performances, including HBO specials and many comic albums. The New York-born performer, who also was an Air Force veteran, once summed up his approach: "I think it is the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately." Carlin's entertainment career began in 1956 at a radio station in Shreveport, La. while he was in the service. In the early 1960s, he began his one-man act, and his live appearances and the albums he recorded proved highly popular. His wife Brenda, predeceased him. They had a daughter, Kelly. A second wife survives him. We will all miss you George! I saw him at Carnegie Hall backinthe late 1980's in one of theconcerts that became an HBO special. Inever laughed as much inmy life -- but he always made sense, you know like what he said was so obvious, but only he could verbalize it. The only one who comes close to GC and by close I mean two star systems away is Carlos Mencia Let's see if the MSM gives as much coverage to this as they did to Tim Russert
