Different strokes for different folks. People choose where they want to buy, based on price, ammenities, location, and the like. Choosing to live where there are architectural rules and guidelines is a choice some people make. Whether they make that decision with those rules and guidelines in mind or not is the buyer's responsibility, not their neighbors.

So basicially you're describing people behaving like humans. Flawed, imperfect, biased, and so on. That's why there's dispute resolution methods and ultimately, work for lawyers.

I was talking to my friend who lives in a very nice gated community, like 2 minutes away from me... Hes got one of the worst HOAs in the area, and the head of the HOA is in violation of the rules...

But anyways, he got fined for having oil spots on his driveway.....

That gives me an idea for a website...

There are websites for vendor ratings, product ratings, speedtrap registies, etc. What I haven't heard of yet, is a HOA ratings website. It would list such things as hypocrisy factor (as in your case with the sidewalks), logic of rules factor, and perhaps a strictness factor (as in how close must your conformist shade of beige be).

It would be interesting to see some of the demographics....As in, are there states where HOA's are more loathed/loved than others. Perhaps average age of the sub in general is a factor as well. who knows..

anyway...that's what my brain spewed forth...Do with it, what you want.

Apparently, it's the neighbors' responsibility too.
