I think we should assume for all individuals the same potential for excellence. There may well be some excellent soldiers left out on the street because their mother or father didn't serve. That hardly seems just, or wise.

People don't really change though.

My family has been in Milford for a long time, and I remember my grandfather telling me the names of some of the drunks and lossers when he was growing up here in the 30's...well you know what? That families that are still around are still all drunk lossers.

So if you have a string of successful people in the family, that should continue.
