F!'s roots are in the best drivers driving the best open wheel cars on road circuits. Period.

A IROC style series has always proven to be boring.

Exactly. I'd love to see missed shifts. I'd love to see people sliding past corners because they went just a bit too late into the brakes. I'd love to see humans in control again. I'd love to see courage and daring rewarded when the driver can keep it just to the right side of being in control.

When was the last time you watched a GP race? All that still happens on a regular basis throughout the season in nearly every practice and race. There are still shunts, cars getting airborne, and all other racing calamity.

I waste two hours pretty much every Sunday morning watching F1 races and have been doing so for nearly 20 years. Practices? Who cares. Who misses a shift with a paddle-shift gearbox? Nobody.

It isn't about watching cars get airborne and it isn't about calamity. It is all about the best driver winning because they are more skilled and more daring. A great recent example is Adrian Sutil, who drove the wheels off a Toro Rosso this year. But since there are better cars on the circuit you'll never know if he was better than Hamilton or Massa or Raikkonnen or Alonso. We all get excited when we watch a race that has a great battle between two drivers - it might last a few corners or might last a few laps - but we're lucky if we get one of those beyond the start. Now if you get more than 8 cars finishing on the lead lap it was a "close" race.

If you want to watch computers race each other, be my guest. I'd rather see racing like back in the day of Fangio, Jimmy Clark, Gilles Villeneuve and Ayrton Senna.

No mention of the braking, passing and sliding which does occur, so you must be a real lever fan . . .

It's always about the best drivers getting the best rides, no? There may not be as many "privateer" teams, like in the days of Rob Walker, etc., but that's purely economics. The best are driving the best, until someone comes up from the back of the pack or through the ranks to displace them.

Unfortunately, you cannot rewind the clock, whether it's back to the days of Ascari, Fangio, Moss, Hill, Surtees, Clark, Hill, Stewart . . . simply because they wouldn't want to go backwards either. We all have our personal concept of "the golden years." It was probably one of the more boring times when the Cosworth Ford DFV engined cars were winning everthing in sight,whether it was in a Lotus, March, McLaren, Matra, Surtees, Brabham . .

Personally I'd love to see a standardized car with a standardized aero package, chassis and engine. Allow a range of adjustments/modifications that are available to all teams. And then let them race. If that doesn't work for the big manufacturers, then don't let the door hit them on the way out.

I want to see racing, not the garbage we've seen for most of the past 15 years.

Watch NASCAR than, in racing cars are not even nore are they supposed to be. F1 is as much a race between the drivers as it is between the teams.
