Question How to the annoying guy at the gym to stop talking to me?

I belong to a gym and have going there for about 5 years now and for about the last week every day from Mon-Fri at about 9 if my times is when I start. There is this man. Very nice dont get me wrong but he drives me nuts. All he does is talk. TALK, TALK, TALK. About anything and everything to anyone. He told me for about 45min today about how he "trys to find the perfect match on EHarmony" and all these other friend finders because hes 40 years old and cant keep a relationship. He fallows me around the gym. From the tredmill to the weights to the abs machine. Hes like a kid on the playground in 3rd grade. I dont want to be a mean person and yell at him but my God this guy tells you his life story all day long. He always says about everything "Those days are gone"-His famous quote.

Buy yourself an iPod, plug in the buds and tune in, work out and drop him...

God, that sounds strangely familiar...

I've heard that a lot of people walk around, talking into cell phones when there's really no one on the line. Maybe they do THAT to keep people from bothering them. All this technology seems to be making us into a somewhat antisocial bunch of people.

That has been going on forever though I remember fake pagers that would beep at a preset time or a minute after a button was pushed, before that you told someone to call you, before that they sent a telegram, before that it didnt matter because they were fewer people and you could easily avoid those you do not desire to speak with.

Yep, got them types in every gym. I used to work in a gym, spent more time pushing iron around than I care to remember and characters like this are always present. Tell him plainly, Hey, I'm here to workout, not chat, stop talking to me while I'm trying to work out. If hes that annoying he's lucky one of the juice monsters hasn't threatened his life yet. RT

I know the type you're talking about. As nice as he seems, he may have other issues and all it takes is a small event/rejection/whatever to trigger some really strange behavior.

Is he new to the gym? Can you change your routine so that you and he don't cross paths? Maybe give it another week or so and he'll run out of stuff to talk about or the novelty of having someone new to talk to will wear off.

Claiming to be gay could backfire in a major way.
