Car Shopping Experience

Anyone been car shopping recently? Whats your experience been like considering the supposed "slow" sales?

Depending on where I go, they either want to move or not move cars...

Toyota/Honda/other Japanese dealers dont want to deal, but the American Car Dealers all seem to have a great deal.

Mercedes and BMW are as always full of prickly salesman...

I think my next cars gonna be Korean....

Yeah... am in the process of looking right now for a medium-sized sedan. Not much discounts on Toyotas and Hondas. Good ones on the Hyundais. And was hoping really good on the big 3. But am finding they don't seem to want to deal as much either.

I was hoping that since I am essentially paying to keep them in business (bail-out tax dollars) that they should probably keep this in mind and give us taxpayers a break!

My wife bought a new RAV4 last month. Got it for about $1000 below MSRP but had to fight for it. Initially the dealer had a markup. Ford had employee pricing at the time, but that's probably gone now.

1. Stopped by my Benz dealer last week and their sales are fine right now.

2. Why, so you can find new and creative ways of destroying them?

You should do what my cousin did to a Kia. drive it up to 40mph and then slam it into park

What is fine? I just saw on the news last night that every manufacturer is down in sales and that includes 30-40% for Toyota and MB. The worst-hit I think is Chrysler with over 50% reduction in sales.

the smart dealership was a joke.. $24k for a Carlsson tuned Fortwo... and the way they treated me, I stood around for 10 minutes before someone attended to me.

Bunch of idiots. The Audi dealer sits and polishes the R8s all day and nobody watching the lot. The salesman elsewhere don't seem real eager to sell anymore. Probably due to the eligibility for credit. I was told a few times the credit score is good but there isn't enough of it? Whatever, it's not worth the hassle, I'll keep what I got. The American dealers always were lazy and stupid, rely on fleet sales and don't help anyone.

From memory, Benz sales were down 43% in December from last year. Doesn't sound very good to me.

I just bought a new Chevy pickup for my new salesman. It told the dealer what I wanted, they scrounged around for it, brought one here for me to look at that didn't quite fit what we needed, so they found exactly what I wanted, put on a cap and painted it to match, titled/taxed/registered it before bringing it here and picking up the check. All with a $5000 rebate and a $500 Lowes gift card.

Two local dealerships that have been around for 25+ years just had corporate show up with car carriers and remove their inventory. Both had opened big, fancy new showrooms within the past 3-5 years which seems to be a common theme among those going out.

Mrs. MTI and I stopped by the local Mercedes showroom to examine the new GLK. A young sales guy gave us the tour. He had just switched from selling new VWs at another dealership, so his banter about my 2.3-16 and the Missus' W202 was rather awkward, since he had yet to learn the lingo.

Out here, the Fletcher Jones owned operation is moving the Jaguar sales and parts off of the Mercedes lot and consolidating it with their Land Rover showroom a mile or so away. Over on Maui, a new Mercedes dealership is being built to MBUSA's new "********" specifications.

From my experience, I would say to at least take a serious look at the Hyundais. The Azera is the best-kept secret in larger FWD sedans. Genesis is a bargain in large RWD sedans, especially for a semi luxury car. Lots of bells and whistles--moving pedals and steering wheel among them. Great warranty.

I'm not a big asian car fan, although I must say, Hyundai has come a long way..they are looking nice these days. The interiors can still look a little cheap, but hey, they come at a good price and seem to deliver.

The Genesis looks like it is going to be sweet

I just saw a new 2007 Chevy 1500 for sale at a fleet dealer for $13,995 plus tag, tax, and BS CT dealer fee.

Thats not bad for a new truck, they are getting cheaper.
