time to start running again

I'm feeling bored with all of this free time my job has now given me. I think its time I started running again. . I stopped running last year and I need me some new running shoes.

I'm very happy with my asics. Cheap, light, very breathable (i get sweaty feet)

What kinda distance do you go for?

I was issued a pair of New Balance in boot camp and have been a New Balance fan ever since. Nikes are ok too.

I don't do that much running anymore. I'm doing good if I run 2 miles twice a week.

I always used Asics ... burned through them pretty quick as I was doing 5-7 miles a day and a 10-12 mile run once each week. But they were the only shoe I found comfortable and light enough ... I hate heavy, rigid shoes.

I quit running three months ago. The shine just wore off. I should probably go back to a little running before I get irreversibly fat and lazy.

Whatever fits. If you have good running mechanics just about any shoe fits. I think the whole shoe fit thing is overrated save for those who have bad feet.

Running = grinding failing knees when you're 55.....biking and swimming are just as good, but easier on the body.......I prefer biking. A good "ride" for me is about 28-30 miles or so.

yea, but the roads in my area are pretty hairy... I live off of a 6 lane highway (north south 3 lanes each) which intersects with an interstate and there is no bike lane or a decent shoulder on the road.. and the local speedlimit is 65

Yes and no. If I wear the wrong shoes when I run, there's hell to pay... but my mechanics are far from perfect. I happen to wear Asics well (the GT 2xxx series are really nice for distance running FOR ME). I would advise that anyone looking to get into running go see a GOOD running shoe specialist. They can watch you run on a treadmill, look at your feet, etc... and make suggestions. I have a narrow heel and wide to box, so some shoes I simply can't wear. Nevertheless, your point is well made for many runners.

I need to start running again as well..we should start a MS Running Club Don.

I run in NB shoes as well. I love running, though I do find it hard to start once I've stopped for a long while (like now). I currently weigh about 195 lbs, need to get down to 185 lbs. A couple of years ago, I was running about 5-6 Km or more every two days and I dropped down to about 168 lbs. Though I felt great, I was a matchstick.

that would be cool. I want to start running again so I have something to do.

I was looking at the NBs's. I've got an issue of runners world with tons of shoe reviews and a Sports Authority/Dicks nearby so I can try on shoes and order them offline if need be

I should start running too, I'm easily 30 pounds overweight.
I'm around 220 at 6'. Would like to get at or below 190.

I have medium flat feet so I wear a medially posted shoe, but as far as those are concerned, I can easily use one of many different brands. I think most people could switch brands if they wanted. Some people are just afraid to go all Obama and change even though subsequent technology might even be better.
