I've had 2 scary experiences.

The first was on the way to Hawaii when we had high winds and lightning. The plane shot sideways very quickly and felt very wrong. We were over the ocean at the time, so that freaked me out a bit.

The second was on the way to Jamaica when we made a very quick hard turn and dropped altitude quickly over the ocean. This was shortly after 9-11 and the flight crew didn't tell the passengers what was going on. We just saw the crew lay the Captain out in the isle outside the cockpit and the flight attendants were panicking and running back and forth to the back of the plane for the defibrillator. One of the flight attendants was crying so a bunch of passengers started freaking out and crying, praying out loud, etc.

After about 10 minutes, they explained that our pilot suffered a heart attack and we had to make an emergency landing in North Carolina so the Captain (who did survive) could get to the hospital.
Yikes, thats just bad luck! When we were flying to Jamaica it was windy and the airport is right by the water....and it was 2:30am (we had been delayed from 2 other planes, for 10 hours, because of various mechanical failures) The airport/runway are RIGHT on the water, so you come down to probably 75 feet and out the window we could see: lightning, big waves in the ocean each time the landing lights flashed , and huge cloud formations in the sky every time lightning flashed. It was windy and smacking the plane around. Finally, water getting closer and closer, a runway appeared out of nowhere, it literally begins at the rocky shore. Pretty freaky!!! Appearantly that airport (Montego Bay) is up there on the list of dangerous airports.

The runway at St Maarten is worse, my neighbor is a flight attendant and she flies there almost every weekend out of Philadelphia.

I play a little game by myself, pick the seatmate. I look for the tallest, widest or comination of to sit next to me. I'm not always wrong.

Not a problem for me either, as long as I have a plane and/or a parachute.

Actually had to use my reserve in 1992 at the Utah Sky Ranch.

Only one out of 21 that I did that wasn't an uneventful landing

When / if I ever get more cash, I will be in the air...with something.

Missed my chance to own a real Lockheed P-40 in 1986.

Wife of the time didn't want it. Solved that problem for the future...no wife now .

I have never had an issue flying. I have been to Europe a couple times so it doesnt bother me. I fly to Florida about 1 every 3 years but most of times I rent a car and drive down.

I had a similar experience flying into Keflavik Iceland on Icelandair. No stom but overcast and wet. Looking out the window we broke thru cloud and all I could see was choppy green seas with white waves all over the place. And the ocean up there is cold! so not where you want to ditch! Flaps down, fishing boat out the window.
Wheels down, more waves, white foam seemes to be right under the wing, what the hell? bump were on the runway

Had that problem with my ex-step-father...pissed him off, his boot would generate just enough lift for a few feet, then I'd 2-point land...then run like hell!!! Take-offs were a *****!
