If Gates made about $175 million a year, that would be about $5 a second. As long as it didn't take more than 20 seconds to pick up that $100 bill, he'd be ahead of the game.

So, we've figured out that Gates would pick up the $100, but unlike Pete G, I have an explanation for the pennies.

The likelihood of back injury caused by stooping isn't offset by the gain of 1c. I'm serious. If I see a bunch of change, or even anything silver, I'll always grab it, but pennies (singular) get to stay where they are. Let some other guy go to the chiropractor forever over 1c...

If you get back injuries from bending over to pick up a penny, you have some serious health issues and probably a bad "lifting" technique as well. Always bend at the knees and hips and keep the back straight.
