Correct me if I'm wrong...but doesn't Canada forbid capital punishment?
If so, the argument for "lead or forever-bed" is moot...it should be whether the nutball is ever let loose into society ever again...and the argument should be why is he even being allowed "re-evaluation" sessions? Was the first batch flawed? Could the doctors have been wrong? Heaven forbid they took a positively sane man, thought he was two pennies short of being a true $3-bill and declared him insane! If he's good enough to be declared sane again, then stick him back in court and convict him on the facts...not on his level of competency... That's what should have been done to begin with...convict on facts, THEN determine where he needs to spend what's left of his life...in General or Mental... End of story...

A little look into the mental health criminal system in Calif.
Quote:
I don't know how the system works in Canada but unfortunately in the USA there are many "stages" of incarceration in the mental health system. The worst is total lifetime lockdown, but every few years the shrinks - often a panel of three (so there is an opinion tie breaker) - each do an evaluation and an interview, and the Mental Health Judge in Court looks at a "package": The original police report, the presentence probation report from Adult Probation (if there is one), the latest sets of pysch reports, and the DA's charges on the Criminal information, and the Judge then decides what options to exercise, after hearing testimony:.... Leave thiings as they are, or if he thinks the guy is getting better, maybe he is thought "partially" rehabilitated, then he gets housed in a "less restrictive setting" where he might receive "on grounds passes" - or in some cases, even gets "temporary off grounds passes" - where he can go into *YOUR* town and shop or visit a relative..Yah! ![]() These hearings happen in Superior Courts, over a 20 year period I saw dozens of them, and the inmates needed Court orders ordering the County sheriffs to go get them, bring them to SF for the hearing, and then transport them back to the facility afterwards, a tedious but necessary process, I must have cut dozens and dozens of inmate Transportation orders to be signed. From there he might even later be "partially" released into society, by living in some halfway house, but with supposedly strict conditions and so on. There is a defined series of steps the Courts can take to "ease" the perp back into society, but a lot of these guys live a LONG time, and never really suffer the punishment or wrath of society for REALLY evil crimes; a small handful of them actually rehabilitate. I remember one black guy (forgot his name, Kempy Jackson maybe?) who back in 1968, was some pimp or something, that was getting a haircut and style, and in the SF barber shop, his barber accidentally spilled a bottle of hair oil all over the guy's white pimp's suit, and so the guy KILLED the barber, shot him, murdered him right there in the barber shop, for it. 20 years later he was still in the Mental Health part of the prison system (they get release hearing every couple of years) and he was easing towards a release date, but it was very slow, and his Public Defender used to laugh about this guy, there was no guarantee he would ever get out.) The Judges joked around, a lot, about these kinds of people, (out side of Court) and said they were doing "Life Imprisonment, on the Installment Plan" Notorious high profile inmates on the level of Sirhan Sirhan and Charlie Manson, aren't likely to get out though. Judges bow to political and popular pressure, usually, I think in cases like those.

Canada should be held up as a model for all countries. Sounds like just the kind of compassionate country many of the leftists here in America want. The poor man needs to be understood as to why society made him so angry. I say kudos to compassionate Canada! Model of the West!

Pretty ****ing stupid is you ask me- of course he's insane. ALL people that stab someone to death, behead them and walk around with body parts are insane. What's there to study? His ability to solve math equations? His childhood dreams? With nearly 7 BILLION people on planet earth we don't need to study this one, or sweat over the perceived loss that someday later he might be able to contribute to the earth or it's people.

Why not? He's just misunderstood. We need to learn to embrace those less fortunate than ourselves. If he had only received hugs in school he would probably not have misbehaved.

Thats what really pisses me off about moral relativism, and to some extent far left liberalism as practiced today. They are so afraid to judge anything, that I can only view them as weak, muddled, morally adrift individuals, who harbor an innate hatred of themselves and everything that made them comfortable enough in life to be the way they are.
I'm sorry but if you cannot see the beheading of a random person, the mutilation of his body, and the consumption of his flesh in such a manner as at least wrong, or a unfixable deficiency, than I'm lost. Study fine, but such a person can never re enter society, they cannot be fixed. The only way to fix such a person is to lock them away for the rest of there lives, or to end there lives. No matter how much you study, drug, understand, hug, or whatever to such a person they cannot be fixed. My worry is that 10, 15, or 20 years from now such an individual well be released into society and another person will have to suffer a dismal end because of it.
