MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two FBI workers are accused of using surveillance equipment to spy on teenage girls as they undressed and tried on prom gowns at a charity event at a West Virginia mall.

The only thing that might even be considered remotely close to that allegation is that they MIGHT have hinted that they were from the police. Otherwise what we have here is someone who "borrowed" equipment to do naughty things. Would it have invoked as much "outrage" if those fine, upstanding gentlemen had worked in a store that sold video cameras and they had "field tested" them?

It doesn't matter what income level they are from. It's wrong.

The FBI is by far the most arrogant of all intelligence agencies. And the most inept. And the least self-correcting. Once you're in, that's it.

You flash the badge and people leave you alone.

But that didn't work here.

Please allow me to rephrase my thoughts. this was a charitable event put on for the benefit of girls who were not be able to afford a prom dress.

I can't speak for the other members on this forum, but back in my high school days, if a girl did not have the means to buy a prom dress, she simply wasn't going to attend the prom. the HAVES were able to attend, the HAVE NOTS got to sit home and think about what it might have been like. the black tie, $1000 prom gown and chauffeur driven limousine crowd were not the focus of this event. this charity was attempting to help girls who had a need.

sexual voyeurism against high schools girls of a lower socio-economic class is an affront.

I see your point here, its like rubbing salt to your existing wounds but in this case, rich or poor, its a blatant abuse of power and a despicable act in every sense.

Some vocational counseling is in order.

I agree that this would be reprehensible no matter who it was done against but I also feel it adds an extra dimension of insult considering who was involved.

The young ladies in question were lured by the event organizers in an honest and legitamate manner hoping to broaden their lives in some small way. And then to have others among the supposed grown-ups with some power in the facility do this, it takes on a bit of an aspect similar to a pervert luring a child with candy.

The people sponsoring this event deserved better and the girls of course did.

How so? If they were doing it as FBI agents, sure. If a cop pulls you over, slaps you because your son did the hump and dump on his daughter, sure. OTOH, if off duty, he robs a bank, how do you think he is abusing his power? Are you sure that they flashed their FBI badges, trumped up a reason, etc, etc? IIRC, they alluded to being police officers even.

They did it as FBI agents and used the facilities and powers provided to them to access equipment necessary for their vile act. Even if they were off duty, cops, military and FBI have a certain responsibility that goes beyond average citizens. Suppose an off duty cop or agent witnesses a crime in action, should they then look the other way as they are not on duty?

If a cop beats someone up because his daughter got knocked up and threatens the person by flashing his badge or pulling his service revolver then its equally wrong. These persons did this act because they thought they were above the law due to their designation, thats where they are mistaken and the punishment should be even more stringent to them. After all when they are given that position by the society, there is a minimal expectation of proper behavior from them. The fact that they were agents meant that no one would have an iota of suspicion toward them and they took full advantage of that.

So what if I used my position as a camera store clerk to "borrow" cameras and used them to peep at people? Would I be abusing my position too? They never said that they were FBI agents nor really used their position for anything. I agree they did something they should not have done on duty and if you want to charge them for deselection of duty, fair enough.

Only them? What about a doctor witnesses somebody being hurt? What about a plumber who sees a leaking faucet? What about a teacher that sees an uneducated child? Where does it end?

I wouldn't fault him for that.

Maybe it will be a lesson to all not to be blinded by a badge or symbol of authority. I have always told my wife, if she gets pulled over by a cop, call 911 FIRST before stopping and ascertain that he really is a cop. Don't just pull over and what not because he has a blue suit and a shiny badge.
