Yankees

It's been a few years since the Yankees had a team that got me excited. There is a lot to like about this year's team, but the Red Sox, as an organization, have left them behind. What's the problem? Is Theo Epstein that much better than Brian Cashman? Or is Hank Steinbrenner to blame?

And who made the decision to tear down Yankee Stadium in favor of that ridiculous monstrosity they are playing in now? What kind of person would want to tear down Yankee Stadium? It boggles the mind.

Having said all that, I'm glad to see Robinson Cano back on track. I love watching him hit.

Have you seen the new stadium? I went to the closing day of the old stadium and walked around to see the front of the new stadium. The old stadium had history, sure, but it was tired. I felt the history when looking out at the field, but not while walking around the stadium or using any of its facilities. It just felt like an old, run down, barely adequate facility. The new stadium (from the outside, anyway) looks gorgeous. It looks like NY. Its granite facade and design evoke the stately old buildings of lower Manhattan. It looks like a federal monument. Very impressive, IMO. Haven't been to a game there yet. Soon, hopefully. (I think they're going to lower the ticket prices a bit!)

I agree with you about Cano. I haven't warmed up to all the new guys on the team yet. It'll take me a bit of time to get to know them all. I hate to admit it, but I agree with you about the Sox, too.

Unless you've been to the new park, I think opinions are somewhat suspect. I was there for the opening night exhibition game against the Cubs. I've been to the old park several times and loved it, but I have to say that the new field is awesome. There is perhaps one section of seats that has a blind spot, but the designers hit a home run.

As for this year . . . Wang sucks (let the joke begin) . . . Sabathia better start earning his pay.

I should probably adopt more of your positive attitude. Say what you will about the Steinbrenners, they don't cut corners. I have to get them that.

We'll catch up eventually. Meanwhile, we'll always have Bucky Dent.

I suppose. I still think the place is too opulent. And all those empty $2,500 seats behind the plate are embarrassing.

For my money, there was nothing wrong with the old stadium, but then my daily driver is 24 years old with almost 300,000 miles, so consider the source.

I will tell you why the Yankees are having a bad year

It is the NEW STADIUM!

The Bambino is SPINNING in his grave right now! If you thought his curse against the Red Sox was long and vindictive, look at recent history.
Steinbrenner announces he is going to build a new stadium and what happens? The Red SOx win the series!
The new stadium gets under way and what happens? The Yankees lose and do not even get into the series.
Now the stadium is built and in use and the Yankees are what in 4th place? No way are they getting a pennant this year or any other year in the near future! (mark my words)

To even think of tearing down the "House that Ruth Built" is blasphemy to baseball no matter which team you root for.

Can you tell I am Italian?

Now tearing down Shea was no biggie...

That is correct--there is plenty of time for them to sink to the cellar! ( Baltimore Oriole fan!)

One of my favorite scenes from The West Wing is where Toby Zeigler is in his young son's bedroom, the kid is fast asleep, and Toby switches the kids Orioles cap for a NYY cap and whispers

Trust me, you'll be happier

Boy, I can't believe this thread has been here all afternoon and not gotten one comment from Mistress! Even though she has bailed on the Yankees in favor of the Dodgers now, I figured there'd be some kind of comment . . . .

There are fans that stick by their teams, through the ups and downs, from the cellar to the champs, and then there are all the rest.

My cousins are die hard Yankee fans as I am a Mets fan... Makes for interesting table talk at family gatherings...

As far as it is only April, The Yanks have the rest of the season to do what the Mets do so well... get your hopes up only to have them dashed on the rocks after the All-Star break...

I was mad as h3ll too... Torre was the best thing to happen to the Yankees in a long time. To drop him like they did showed no class...
