......then there are the fans that only pop their heads out of their closet only when a team is winning......

Doesn't matter which team it is either..........some don't have a life without one to latch on to......

Yup . . . in the NL I'm a long time suffering Cubs fan, or as the Steve Goodwin song goes "the doormat of the National League . . ."

You might not be able to tell from TV, but the box seats have fully padded seat and back cushions. The field level has slightly less padding and so it goes up to the nosebleed sections.

Another bit to consider is that more than a few empty seats during these early season games is the result of fans checking out the new stadium, the new food courts, bar and restaurants, the museum and the shopping arcade. Unlike the old stadium, from the main concourse just above the field level seats, you can pretty much see the entire field while standing in line for a Nathans or "noodle bowl."

I have a friend who calls himself a "free agent fan." He roots for the team that is favored or the team that is winning, no matter what. He'll switch allegiances in the middle of a game. He also believes that if a player is well paid, there is no excuse whatsoever for him not delivering 100% of the time, especially in the clutch. It's pretty funny sometimes, most times it really annoying. He's a stockbroker. Of course.

I've been a lifelong Sox fan and Yankee hater. But I have tempered my hatred and actually become quite objective and even appreciate their history thanks in part to my FIL, who while being a lifelong Yankees fan, was never the typical a-hole Yankee fan with me and just loved talking baseball and its intricacies.

I think Cashman is every bit as smart as Theo is but doesn't have the free reign and ability to pull the trigger as he sees fit without the Steinbrenner family's blessing. Hank is picking up where George left off, willing to pay anything and everything to get the big FA signings. Whether they fit in or not. When they were winning WS rings in the last millenium Cashman was making the personnel decisions.

While it is 1A and 1B when it comes to payroll, the Sox do seem willing to draw a line in the sand and are willing to let players walk if they don't fit the value vs. dollar equation. OTOH I think the Yankees get into bidding wars with themselves. There has been a lot of influence from the way the Patriots run things who, like them or not, like to fit players who may be considered a step below the elite and are often in situations where they want to prove themselves.

And besides, since we're talking about ample-girthed curses, they haven't won since Hillary bolted on the Cubs and donned a Yankee cap in her first campaign.

While the Sox did oversee the biggest "choke" in professional sports history during the ALCS in 2004 . . . Let me know when they have one of these at Fenway

As the t-shirts sold at the stadium say . . . at the rate the Sox are going, it's going to take three centuries . . .

Do they sell "Blivets" at Yankee Stadium? if not we can make a killing selling them there. What say you?
