Legalizing drugs won't do anything but increase operating capital for the Federal and local governments by means of another tax. Most gangs are not financed by capital obtained from marijuana...it comes from crack, crystal meth, heroin, and prostitution. Marijuana isn't as big of a money maker as you may think. Do you want to legalize the other drugs I mentioned? If so, Amsterdam may be the place you should live.

As for my pointing out your spelling errors...there were none on in the post I quoted, just a grammatical error.

As for the post I quoted here...there's a couple.

You pay way more for that hamburger at McDonalds than you realize.
The mother of one of the gangsters you are complaining about works there.
She does not make enough to support her family, so she has to rely on public assistance.
They do not provide health benifits to any employees but a select few.
So when she gets sick, or her child gets sick they have to rely on public assistance.

That public assistance comes from your tax dollars.

Who do you want to be paying McDonalds payroll.
McDonalds or the american taxpayer ?

Amsterdam has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.
That is what we are talking about, reducing crime ???
Seems like we might take a lesson from them.

How many billions of dollars are wasted on enforcement and punishment of "drug" crimes ?
Do you want to be paying thousands of dollars in taxes to keep a guy in prision for having a sack of weed ?
Or do you want to use that money for education ?

There is a fundimental difference between you and I.
You strive for perfection in apperance, and an elevated position in your peer group.
I dont care what it looks like, but how it works.
And I dont give a rodents derrier about most peoples opinions of me.
In fact I am quite happy when some people continue to disagree with me.

There is no panacea, but my wild guess is that most of the blame lies with parents who don't spend any appreciable amount of time with or take an interest in, their kids.

As with anything their are exceptions to the rule, but I would venture out on a limb and say it helps more people than it hurts.

I do agree, kids usualy reflect their parents. So if their parents suck so do they.

Try doing something about it and yopu will be amazed at the results!

Your attitude sounds like what happened in East St. Louis and Gary Indiana and Detroit and Jacksonville.

RUN FORREST RUN!

Run to the safest part of the county and think the problem is solved because you do not see it. Here in NYC most municipal employees are required to reside in side the city (post 1999 ALL new hired Cops, Firemen, Civil Service folks are required to live in the 5 Boroughs).

You really like hanging with Low Life Scumbags? Sheesh you deserve what you get...I lived in the 'hood and really got tired of the attitude and eventually they choose to prey on you as well...

Seriously I saw what that attituide has done in many towns and it isn't pretty. Philly sucks because all the folks who can do something run back outside the Main Line after 5 PM and leave the junkies and moochers and pimps and streeties for the rest of us to deal with.

The same with Miami, Atlanta, and many others. All have serious after 5 PM safety issues that could be fixed if the folks with the money adn the power and the connections chose to do their share.
What should I have done? Gone out on a vigilante justice crusade and capped em all? You see what the people do around that area and you want to live near them? Nope. You leave. if you want to live amongst them and try to "change" them, be my guest.

I actualy don't mind Bridgeport. Since I have went to school in both of those cities, Aquaculture in Bridgeport, and SCSU in New Haven here are some observations:

In Bridgeport everyone is poor, they will steel or rob you if given half the chance. Do not get caught out on most streets after dark if you are white, you will get robbed. But during the day, if your driving and mind your own business usualy they mind theirs. Remember Bridgeport is in Fairfield county, and that group mixes in for the various stores during the day. I have never had a problem.

If you are working in Bridgeport, I highly recomend carrying a gun. Our trim guy does projects down their and most of the subs on the jobsite are armed. For good reason, the crack heads want the tools bad. He carries a Beretta M9.

New Haven, and all the Havens for that matter.
Rule 1. If you are white do not enter Fair Haven, unless you are going to buy drugs. You will get shot, or beat up. Cops travel in groups in that area, and New Haven cops are pretty tough guys. They arn't like Milford cops, they know how to bust skulls. Out of all the cops in CT, New Haven are probably the guys you want to mess with the least.

But in general I hate New Haven with a passion. Thanks to the mayor its loaded with illegal alians who drive with little regard for our laws. No one pays attention to any traffic laws, and few have insurance. OTOH New Haven will teach you how to drive like no where else, its a wild free for all.

Unlike Bridgeport where people are just poor, in New Haven they actualy have some money. Enough to get decent cars to run red lights with at four times the speed limit. Most people are generaly jerks.

New Haven has the bar and club scene, again mostly $30k millionaire's, mixed in with the real ones from Yale. The Yale part of New Haven is nice and its own little world.

Just my 2 cents.

the answer is obvious...gotta get rid of hand guns. No one except the police should be able to posess a handgun legally. That's it...long arm weapons should be allowed for hunting and sport but no one hunts for a pheasant with a handgun. And, make the penalty extremly harsh for those caught with these banned weapons. How come the government can distinguish legally between heroin and marijuana as far as law and they can't do the same with guns? I doubt you would have many drive by stabbings or clubbings......The NRA must be a very powerful lobby group to keep this one going this long.

yeah right. the only thing that would do is create an even more thriving black market for pistols. who says hand guns cant be used for sport? i would much rather have a handgun than a rifle to protect my home in a pinch too.

I once delivered thanksgiving meals in New Haven and it truly was scary at times. Some of the houses we delivered to were 100% drug infested.....

Downtown New Haven around the green isn't too bad, i've been to a few of the cafes in the area that aren't bad at all. I've yet to see an above decent area in Bridgeport though....

All that will do is keep law abiding citizens from owning them.

They outlawed drugs...that worked well...
