Anyone have the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred?

I think I want to get these, but some people say they are noisy, and some say they are quiet!! I know tirerack has reviews, but I think about half are planted by the mfg's. Call me a skeptic. So I figure some of you must have them. So are they quiet or loud?

I put a set on my wifes car about a 1 and 1/2 years ago. (82 300SD)

Really good tire in my opinion.

Seriously good in rain.

Only falut I have found is they come out of balance pretty quickly.
Gad I bought them at a local place that does the lifetime rotate and balance free.

As far as road noise I would give it a 5 out of 10.
Its not silent, nor anoyingly noisy.

But I have Kumo Solus KR21 on two of the other cars.

They are one of the best tires I have owned.

And they cost a lot less than the goodyears.

In the last couple years, I have put TripleTreds on my Audi A4, Saab 9-5, Jaguar XJ8, Volvo V70 XC, and E300 Diesel (210 chassis). I put a set of Fortera TripleTreds on the ML320 and I put two sets (I upgraded the wheels after I bought the first set) on my 1984 300SD.

I have not found them noisy at all. Wet weather traction is awesome, traction in the snow is very good. The ride on the highway is smooth and the tires track well.
The Jaguar did not work well in the snow with them but every other car did. The E300 did particularly well in the snow.
Every car I have that is/was a daily driver, with the exception of the Honda Insight hybrid I had last year (it needs low rolling resistance tires) gets a set of TripleTreds.

My non-daily drivers get either Dunlop SP60's or General Exclaim HP's.

Exclamation Don't buy them!

They are exceptionally crappy. I bought a set about 4 years ago, they went out of balance about 4 times in the first 12-13k or so.....then they could not get them to re-balance....something was wrong. So I claimed warranty and got a pro-rated replacement with the Michelin Destiny/Harmony tires.....they have lasted forever, I've probably put close to 50k on them so far and still have nearly 50% tread left! And they are smooooth. My dad runs them also on one of his SD's and after 5 years they are still doing great.

Moral of the story, don't buy Goodyear Assurance TripleTred!

Another tire I recommend is the General Tire Altimax HP.....I put a set of those on my W124/300E.....and they are an awesome tire considering they're about $65 apiece. Smooth, quiet, great traction in the rain and snow.
And, they have a really nifty tread look to them. http://www.generaltire.com/tires/T2/AltiMAX-HP

Oh man. The balance issue is one I never thought of. I know the Pirellis have that problem also. I wil never buy Pirelli again, but I am sure some people love them!! Well, I like my MXV4's pretty well. I just want a little more snow traction.

I've got these on my prelude. Great all season tire. Easy to make noise from a stoplight if you gun it though.

So that's 2 votes for the Generals, from Ohio and Michigan where I think you know about snow. On the other hand you also know about salt and snow plows which are foreign concepts in Seattle. And I don't think you have our hills either. Oddly, the mfg does not seem to claim snow performance for these tires.

That's not the moral of the story..........that's the conclusion.

Here's the moral:

Michelin makes round tires, Goodyear makes black ones.

I got mine prior to winter this year. I was very pleased with their performance. With about 5inches on the roads, I went out to an empty lot and pushed them too far to see where that was and how quickly they re-grabbed. I don't have a lot of mileage on them for a durability evaluation though. I usually switch to my autocross tires for the summer, but haven't yet this year. Dry and wet performance for the Generals is nothing to write home about, but is adequate for street driving.

I have come to the conclusion that Michelin, and maybe Dunlop make the only tires worth getting.

I have Goodyear Wranglers on the front of my truck that are about 2/3 worn and they suck pretty bad. They have some life left but this fall a new set of Michelin's is going on.

I can't in the 300E! If I gun it in 1st it will move very quickly....but no tire sounds....

I'd go with Michelin or General.

I managed a Goodyear store or two on my day. The TriplTred is a great tire on certain vehicles. For some reason, on vehicles that call for high positive caster settings like Benz's, they cup and wear quickly. On a FWD-type suspension or RWD with more rigid caster/camber, they wear like iron and continue to ride quietly. I got a freind a set for his minivan a few years back and he'll drive on nothing but. One drawback is they're heavier than other tires so expect a small mpg loss.

Amazing how some people love Michelins. I've despised them for years. Never thought they were worth the hype, same as Pirelli. I picked up my W8 Passat on May 11, 2003. It's a 6 speed so it had the mandatory sports package - 225/45R17 Pilot HX MXM4's. May 17th at 620 miles, it had 225/45R17 Dunlop Sport 9000's on it. Squishy sidewalls with stiff tread. Always been my experience with Micies that after about 10% wear, noise levels go up & wet traction goes down. Nine months later, I went to 235/40R18 Dunlop Sport MAXX - less expensive than the 17 inch Michelins.. I will always drive on a Dunlop, Yokohama, Bridgestone or high-end Goodyear.

My experience has been that brand is not enough to know if a tire's good or not. My brother's Integra came with Michelins and they were the worst tire I've ever ridden on. Mine came with Bridgestone RE92s, which are the second worst tire I've ever ridden on. And I like Bridgestone.
Personally I don't think the Michelins are worth the money.

What is a good tire for high positive caster settings?

They work for me

No noise problem. Great wet traction and decent in snow.
