Oh.
My.
Goodness.

That could be Ma & Ed's collection!

Interesting take on hoarding. Darling Wife's family (mother's side) has FOUR houses amongst the hoarders that have been moved out of because the crap was piled up to the point that there was NO space left to move about.

Before she went to the nursing home, grandmommy ate at mickey d's - 4 times a day - for 3 years. Because the tunnel to the kitchen collapsed. How that woman (who at the time she moved into the nursing home weighed just shy of 400 pounds) has survived to 92 is a mystery to me.

My wife's grandma was somewhat of a hoarder too.....her basement had a big room FULL of "deals" from garage sales, the room was jammed with stuff....most of it random and unused. She also had a huge barn/building filled with stuff too.....as well as her bedroom, and a big cabinet in the dining room, and all the kitchen cupboards and drawers....and the garage.....it was horrifying. It took about 6-7 people MONTHS to clean it all out when she died.

All I really horde is car parts, but I keep it pretty well under control just a couple shelves in the garage. And computer junk.....a couple bins in my closet. I try to purge and recycle at least every year or two......at my worst I filled my whole utility trailer with old computer stuff. I've minimized since then thankfully.

Hoaders are tough to live with. I always felt like I held on to too many things for too long, but I have since discovered there are people a LOT worse than I am. Once I start cleaning out, I tend to get rid of everything as the momentum builds . . . .

^^^I hear ya.

My kiddos discovered the selling side of Craig’s List a few months back and things started to fly out of the house pretty quick.
They loved seeing what sort of things other folks would actually buy, and how much they would actually pay for what we figured was “old junk”.

I hoarde computer parts and music stuff. I have about 10 PCs and 3 laptops just kinda sitting around that I've fixed but have no use for. I always tell myself I'll find a use for them but I think I should just throw them out. One of my laptops and/or PCs will turn into a music recording rig, the other a central server for my house. Few guitars, few keyboards, few mics, 2 good drumsets (well, I combined them into one for a while, that was some sweet playing!), homemade electronic drums everywhere, couple mixers (one doesn't work), cords everywhere. If only I could play them all at once I'd be a one-man band....

edit: ...had to!

Talking sarah sylvia cynthia stout would not take...

...
sarah cynthia sylvia stout
would not take the garbage out!

she'd scour the pots and scrape the pans,
candy the yams and spice the hams,
and though her daddy would scream and shout,
she simply would not take the garbage out.

and so it piled up the ceilings:
coffee grounds, potato peelings,
brown bananas, rotten peas,
chunks of sour cottage cheese.

it filled the can, it covered the floor,
it cracked the window and blocked the door
with bacon rinds and chicken bones,
drippy ends of ice cream cones,
prune pits, peach pits, orange peel,
gloppy glumps of cold oatmeal,
pizza crust and withered greens,
soggy beans and tangerines,
crusts of black burned buttered toast,
gristly bits of beefy roasts...

the garbage rolled on down the hall,
it raised the roof, it broke the wall...
greasy napkins, cookie crumbs,
globs of gooey bubble gum,
cellophane from green baloney,
rubbery blubbery macaroni,
peanut butter, caked and dry,
curdled milk and crusts of pie,
moldy melons, dried-up mustard,
eggshells mixed with lemon custard,
cold french fries and rancid meat,
yellow lumps of cream of wheat.

at last the garbage reached so high
that finally it touched the sky.
and all the neighbors moved away,
and none of her friends would come to play.

and finally sarah cynthia stout said,
"ok, i'll take the garbage out!"
but then, of course, it was too late...
the garbage reached across the state,
from new york to the golden gate.
and there, in the garbage she did hate,
poor sarah met an awful fate,
that i cannot right now relate
because the hour is much too late.
but children, remember sarah stout
and always take the .. garbage... OUT!!!!!

Woman across the street is a hoarder. Basement and first floor are filled up. She's living on the second floor but it is approaching capacity. She has other problems too.

Got any old 3.5 floppies? I want to make a sculpture with them, but I've only got about 100.

I actually still use the few ones I've still got Mostly for booting up OS's and diagnostics. Threw all the rest away once CDs took over. I guess I don't hoard that bad!

edit: ...had to!

I used to run a server for "random" tasks (I VPN into my family's main server which is located at my parents house...for file storage and e-mail server).....but ever since I moved where power is no longer part of the rent, I've become mega-cheap, and it has never been powered up since I moved. It costs like $5-6 a month in power just to run an average PC with a few hard drives 24/7. Nearly $70 a year!
