Personal responsibility...

I have to say I have been seeing this more and more in society, its everyones fault but mine. Its total BS, drives me nuts.

I noticed it this week in class, we were talking about management. I mentioned that I kind of have my own business, and when you have your own business every problem is your fault. You could be on the other side of the country and one of your subs screws up, well thats your problem, and its on your check book to fix it.

Some people in the class were surprised and said oh its such and such's fault, or your not responsible. They simply fail to grasp that when you are in charge its your problem, its your responsiblity to fix it, or better yet prevent it.

I see this in society at large to, just look at the lawyer labels on everything, its nuts. People just are not taught responsiblity these days. Just look at all the nanny state things in cars these days. My truck will yell at me if I don't buckle up. But WTF I don't always want to buckle up. How does it know I am on public roads and not in a gravel yard?

I knew someone who was actually happy to get injured in a car accident. Disability, and insurance payout for pain and suffering. Our most popular ambulance chaser has his office on skid row of Wichita, usually sporting his red Ferrari out front during business hours.

and we wonder how insurance premiums have doubled over the last 10 years?

How would the ambulance chasers make their money if the 12 morons didn't give those verdicts?

I know that. However, what is the out of court settlement based on if not previous precedents? The way I see it work, my lawyer goes to you and says "Previous juries have given us awards ranging from $10K to 15K. If we go to court and you lose, you would have to spend a min of $10K plus your own lawyer fees. Odds of your losing, IOW the jury taking pity on the poor schmuck are good. Therefore, your min bill will be $15K by the time it is said and done. I want $8K to settle it.". It would be a good business decision to cut your losses at $8K

I'm not a lawyer and don't want to pretend to be. Maybe a few on this forum will chime in.

I would think that most of us would side with the poor accident victim rather than a big conglomerate insurance company that's been sucking $$$ away all of our adult lives. What we don't realize is we're screwing ourselves.

We do need some of these lawyers, though, as there are plenty of examples of insurance companies ripping people off.

Its just funny that's there really is no such thing as an accident any more. No longer does $hit just happen.

That is why we deserve to be screwed.

Nothing wrong with lawyers. They are doing their job as best as they can within the framework of the law.

That is why we have psychiatry/psychology. To find blame and mitigate our own responsibility.

More like you, I would think. I know I wouldn't give a pity award to anyone. I would disregard and even look negatively on someone who brought a mindfawk to mitigate their misbehavior.

I see a bit of odd logic here. I dont see it as being a problem you created if a supplier had promised a given amount of product, and they failed to deliver it, on time. I do see that it would become your problem, and you have the responsibility to make work go on without it.

People are always looking for an easy way out... We are all guilty of it.

sometimes - but only sometimes - people benefit from psychiatry/psychology. they discover what makes them the way they are - and they try to, uh, change their way of interacting with others. become responsible for their moods, actions, etc. people who disdain psychiatry often are quite fearful of what lies in the depths of their own psyche.

draw your own conclusions.

I'm sure you have some interesting jury duty experiences to attest to that?Probably they'd just toss you out in the jury pool at the hint of that attitude.

Shows like these make me think the end of humanity is getting closer...

When you accept a job done like they do, let me know. No estimates, takes as long as it does, no guarantee of success or how much it will cost. Would you allow me to fix your car if I told you those terms? Most will not. Yes, the next excuse is that the mind is blah, blah, blah. Well, nobody told you to take the job. If you are not equal to the task, don't take it.

How about the woman who gave her kids a rock party? 2 died and 1 severely brain damaged. 2 mindfawks said she was guilty and 2 said she was sane. Surprisingly enough. the 2 that said she was sane came from the prosecution and the other 2 came from her defense.

Mindfawks are only as popular today because people can use them as a mitigating factor for their nonsense. Michael Fay tried what I call the "Classic American Defense" with his mindfawk. The Singapore courts punished him anyway but let him get his "help" AFTER the punishment. After he got home, he almost blew himself up freebasing cocaine. Guess he didn't get the "help" he needed because he wasn't able to use it to lessen the punishment.

Never been asked how I would react to a Mindfawk's opinion as yet. I guess they all assume that I'd be a sucker for that kind of "buy an opinion" garbage.
