Sold the E500, decesion for the future.
Despite the healthy sale price this one hurt really bad. What an amazing car.
![]() I mentioned selling the wagon and another MBCA member referred me to his sister and brother-in-law. She has a Jeep Grand Cherokee pushing 120k, and 3 boys. She was sick of SUVs and hates minivans. We test drove with the parents, myself, and 2 of the boys who chose to sit in the rear facing third row. They had test driven a R-class a few days before with a 29k price tag and were turned off by the looks. (just like everybody else ![]() Anywho, she loved it, he loved it, the kids were telling her to buy it, and they told me they'd take it on the spot. I told them I needed to sleep on it, which I did. Hal went off to his future life of soccer practice runs this afternoon. ![]() I'm left with a wad of cash and am trying to decide whether to plan for the future or have one last hurrah as a kid before graduation and mediocrity. Here are my two options: Option 1: (Safe) Purchase a nice used truck or SUV with a decent towing capacity to bring new cars home. Save the rest to scope out future older MB deals and for startup costs of my business after graduation in May. No risk, more planning, no stress. My first car ever was a Dodge Dakota Sport and I would probably get another one of those. The 7k tow rating is more than enough to handle what I need, though I may want to upgrade the brakes. Easy life, but boring. http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/inview/detail.jsp?ct=u&car_id=267901584&dealer_id=57324497&car_year=2001&dealership_view_name=www.dmusedcars.com&sort_type=make_modelASC&cardist=6615 Option 2: Buy an expensive sports car I've always wanted at an amazing deal, enjoy for 6 months or so, flip, then go back to option 1. More risk, more reward, more stress, more fun. Live with no regrets. Anyone taken the safe road in life and regretted, or vice versa?

I had the fast car, and am now doing the safe thing, although my truck cost more than the Vette did. It will haul anything, and in fact is going to get another Mercedes tomorrow. So, I'd do the safe thing, there's still time to get your speed on.

What type of business are you starting in this excellent economy? Its not an auto dealership specializing in perfect older MB's is it?

Well... you never know what tomorrow will be.
So...enjoy life as much as you can without sacrificing the people you love and care about. I see that a lot of the guys here shouting LOTUS..LOTUS...but if I was in your shoes I will go with the Porsche 911 Carrera 4. The market now is great for buying Porsche. The Carrera 4 is a bit slower of the mark but hit the curves and there is not a car in production today that can touch it. I think that you will become tired very quickly of the Lotus...it is not made for every day use. It is great car on the track...but that's it. The Porsche is everything you will ever want, you can go to do your weekly shopping and hit the race track on the weekend.... I'm still regretting selling mine Carrera 4..... Whatever you do...just enjoy.

But as far as Porsches it is a good time to buy. My friend just picked up a nice 993 C2... For I think 30k... its mint I wish I could have the issue of deciding between a Porsche or a Lotus.. I need a real job. |

I had to vote option 1 because you'll need all the cash you can get starting up a business. Once you have an established, successful business, you can buy anything you want.
Don't think that when you get older that you won't enjoy "kid" stuff any more. Age just gives you perspective, the "kid" is still in there. If you do go for option 2, I would get this: A "real" super car. I've wanted one of these for years and I'll eventually get around to getting one...

Nows not the time in your life to enjoy such a car, invest in your company.
