Don't look now but communist China is bailing us out of financial disaster, over and over and over . . .

How did that happen?

They are not communist.

Slick Dick Nixon introduced the Chicoms to capitalism.

The rest is history........

*** More true than we'd like to admit... ***

The way the four "isms" reacted for each other reminded me of the little "parable" that went something like this (I may be paraphasing it a bit):

"I didn't speak up when they came for the Jews. I didn't speak up when they came for the infirmed. I didn't speak up when they came for the homosexuals. I didn't speak up when they came for the addicted. And now, they are coming for me! Who will speak up for me and my position? No one is left!"

The way we are loosing our freedoms is one small piece of legislation at a time...not ONE BIG BILL OR PRONOUNCEMENT.

A little here, a little there.

Pretty soon, we'll have nothing but lawyers saying "There's nothing we can do about it..."

My last payday DIDN'T include a government check.

How about anyone that gets a government check NOT RESPOND and we'll see if this thread dies here or keeps going.

BTW, my check did get "direct deposited" - so I may not be too far from some sort of government control...but then, I knew that when I had to sign up to get paid...

What has this got to do with unions? Or is there a point you are trying to make with that garbage drivel?

Very simply put, they are doing what we did and we are doing what they were. They realized what they did didn't work and we think that we should adopt that. Communist China? What part of communism agrees with millionaires and billionaires?

Problem is that Karl believed that people would all readily chip in without asking "WIIFM?". Something that is flawed. I agree that if you take a bunch of computers and put them together, you have what the Vulcans in Star Trek talk about where the product is greater than the sum of the parts. How will you go against human nature without an authoritarian style of govt?

I mean, if I make $10 an hour whether I am hold a PhD, Masters or Undergraduate Degree or a HS grad, why should I make the sacrifices to go all the way? Why not just pass HS and be done with it? It's about inertia. The body will remain at rest until compelled by an external force. I won't go out and buy food if I am not hungry.

Slowly, because of the power lust of the officials, but surely, they are moving away from it. Officials used to be only sold to the party. Now, they are also being sold to the millionaires and billionaires. The people have realized that communism and/or socialism is not going to bring them the success they have now. Success brings money. Money brings about changes to get more money.

They have had a taste and they are hungry and NOT going to put the thing down. Unlike us, we are not hungry anymore. We have gorged ourselves full and now can expend our money on stupid egalitarian projects.

How do you think Nam became such a powerhouse concerning shrimp exports? 3rd of 4th place last time I was there. What made them an exporter of rice when they used to be able to barely feed themselves? All of which came about when the govt couldn't support them any longer and decided to allow the rice farmers to keep the profits they made. Next year, they started to export a little rice and more the year after and so on. I suspect in 20 years, you will see their handiwork every time you look at your shirt labels.

The bad news is that they will ditch communism or only be communist in name at best and become a major financial power. The bad news is that it won't matter to us because we will try, more and more, to be what they discarded and either we will learn that it won't work or we will be gone.

The sad joke is that they have had socialism and we have capitalism and we want to trade places. They will trade up and we will trade down. The further down we go, the more we will try to see how we can tweak socialism to make it work and we will go down more because we keep wanting to make ourselves wards of the state and that will diminish desire to excel. Yes, I am well aware of the thought process that infers that by taking all those worries off the person is now free to excel. I believe that it needs a carrot and stick approach. There must be the rewards of success. HOWEVER, and this is the hard part, there must also be the punishment or consequence of failure.

It's easy...

If there are still FDR or Reagan or Clinton fans in our own Booberment, the extrapolation for ChiCom Maoists can easily be drawn...

CAN'T IT?

Uncanny. It's almost like they saw the future.

Communism lives, we elected it!

The cartoon would look even more like today's ISM if it included the assertion that profits are bad. Also, the snake oil salesman should launch into ad hominem attacks towards anyone who disagrees with his positions.

..."Joe Doakes" builds cars outside of the US now...so fewer support industries created in the system...and stagnant wages...

...the relatives that would have invested in "Joe" bought paper instead...they are "speculators", not "capitalists". When the value of whatever the paper represented tanked, so did the paper...and their investments...

...we aren't the same enterprising sort of folks that we were in 1948.

Took years to get that way...this doesn't belong to Obama.
