Took years to get that way...this doesn't belong to Obama.

The blame belongs to us. We stopped being enterprising because we don't have to be anymore. We stopped working hard because we don't have to anymore. We have, in our own egalitarian way, removed the sting of failure. So, if you are lazy and willing to settle for some minimum, why work hard?

I agree that if you take a bunch of computers and put them together, you have what the Vulcans in Star Trek talk about where the product is greater than the sum of the parts. How will you go against human nature without an authoritarian style of govt?

I mean, if I make $10 an hour whether I am hold a PhD, Masters or Undergraduate Degree or a HS grad, why should I make the sacrifices to go all the way? Why not just pass HS and be done with it? It's about inertia. The body will remain at rest until compelled by an external force. I won't go out and buy food if I am not hungry.

And you're right. The fallacy in Karl's work was that he was only looking at small communities, like tribes where the survival of the group depends on everyone.

Once it starts growing the whole system doesn't work.

VERY small communities. Even in the case of a simple 2 child family, there are a lot issues coming forth. Even between husband and wife, there are issues where one will do something to get on top of the other (Not necessarily in bed only).

That is why it needed to be authoritarian other things would fall apart very quickly. The theory is nice though. We each bring an ingredient and by nightfall, we have a wonderful stew. Soon someone gets the smart idea to hold back a little and then somebody follows. Pretty soon, you won't even have the pot of hot water.

The "news" being the feud between the West Wing and Fox News. The research staff at FNC found one sentence in a speech by WH communications director, which also included, in the same sentence, Mother Theresa.

Dunn and who else?

Dunn is just a bit weird. I think it's definitely permissible and useful to look at the life and battles of someone like Mao or Stalin but calling Mao one of her favorite political minds (or whatever) was just stupid.
