have you ever had venison? Tasty! plus there is a real accomplishment in bringing down a big buck that has survived many hunting seasons.

Also as was said before, without predators the deer overpopulate and then they all starve. Better to remove a percentage so the others have a chance...

Since there have been well regulated hunting seasons the population of deer has increased.

Hey now. Knock it off. Not everybody is like that. We also have Jeff Boy Ardee who had tried to keep people in a semi dead situation for sex. When that failed, they became freezer meat......

I don't think you are 'missing' anything. You have just choosen to buy your meat already killed for you (I'm assuming you do eat meat) instead of doing the killing yourself.

There are many ways to look at it. IMO, unless one is a vegan there is no reason to be against hunting. If one eats any sort of meat, then they are a 'hunter' in some form. It is just we have evolved to a point in our civilization where everyone does not need to do the hunting of animals. Instead we raise them in captivity to be easily harvested when the appropriate time arrives. So personally, I see no difference in taking an animal from 'the wild' to one on a farm. Some people choose to do the killing themselves occasionally. No difference to me whether they do it for themselves or the farmer/butcher does it for them.

Plus, how many Mercedes have been wrecked by deer? I also see it as every deer that is taken by a hunter may save the life of my Mercedes.

There is a huge difference between slaughtering animals for food and going out to hunt them. While I like venison, I probably will not be too enthused about it if you were to tie up the deer and have me shoot it. It is also about the sport. While some might think that the gun or bow is that superior and makes it like shooting fish in a barrel, it isn't always that simple. You are in THEIR environment. They can hear and smell you way better than dogs.

True dat. Plus, they may be color blind, but they can spot an orange ball in the otherwise sedated tree from pretty far too. At least with deer I've killed, I know every step the meat has taken from kill to dinner plate. Cows and others, I'm not so sure about.

A few times, although only once or twice from someone who knows how to cook. The very best venison I have had was almost as good as a mediocre piece of beef. IMHO. But that's just my personal taste. If others like it, that's fine.

No doubt. But does that make it a good trade? I say no, but I wouldn't want to pass any sort of moral judgment against the many who disagree.

That sounds legit to me, although it also appears that the deer in that area are doing quite fine, if that buck is any indication. If hunting serves a purpose by controlling the herd population, then it's a good thing. I still wish that big buck was out there doing his thing.
