he's making a joke, a palm V could be called the iphone of 1999, except it didnt have a phone, a diehard following or a hipster ad campaign. it did have 2MB of memory and a 16MHz processor =)
Palm/Palmone still makes PDA's (which, you might say, would compete with an Iphone) but they dont make anything in the netbook/notebook size. -John

Depends on what you need it for
We use the Lenovo S10 series as Field Units to write engineering reports and collect data, MS Word, Excel, simple Photo stuff.
They work great, are quite durable and weigh 2 1/2 lbs and so far only 1 is dead from a coffee spill on the keyboard (swapped the HDD to another unit and no worries). Atom 270 processor and 2GB of RAM will handle almost any basic XP program and yes it is a cute web surfing toy but if you need a real number cruncher or do serious Photo editing get a full sized laptop or desktop. Advice is to stay away from the Dell and Gateway series of all in one screen + CPU units-our IT guy says they are a ***** to work on due to the way the screen is anchord. the chances of cracking the LCD are high and the heat buildup kills HDD's quick. IBM/Lenovo laptops are bullet proof-we have 5 and 6 year old X series machines that are in daily use, HP, Dell, Toshiba are 2 year machines that tend to eat MB's like crackers and noe of the makers can support them since they are redesigning stuff every 6 months but for some reason Lenovo is able to source reman MB's for 5 and 6 year old machines (we have lost only a few all to Soda/Coffee/Wine spills). HP Tablets suck, the screen wears out very fast-we dropped them for the X6X and X200 Lenovo's for the jobs that require a tablet function. Yes they are Chinese made but designed here by the old IBM RTP guys so they actually work as designed and their CSA is quite good ( an American actually answers the Help Line in Raleigh Durham). |
